Vehicle description

I purchased this 1978 GMC Sierra 2500 on September 1, 2001 (theweek of 9/11) – it had 137,529 miles on the odometer. I have owned it almost 19years and am the 3 rd owner. I originally purchased it to tow a 24-ftcamper for hunting/fishing trips. We did that a few times and then sold ourcamper and never towed with it again. I then used it for Cub & BoyScouts for years, and the occasional pick-up of supplies from Lowe"s or HomeDepot. It has basically been a ‘lawn ornament’ for years, and although I neverplanned on ever selling it my wife has finally talked me into letting itgo. This was a fun project truck, and just after I bought it with137, 539 miles on it, I had its original 350-V8 engine professionally rebuiltwith several enhancements included: hypereutectic pistons, Hi-volume oil pump, RVcam, roller-rocker valvetrain, tall aluminum valve covers, Hedmanceramic-coated Hedders, MagnaFlow mufflers & exhaust pipes & crossoverpipe, Edelbrock Performer Series intake manifold & Edelbrock 1406 PerformerCarburetor, plus a ton more I just can’t remember. . Before re-installingthe motor we put in a Hughes Towing Torque Converter too. I added an entireRough Country 4" lift kit with new leaf springs, shocks & steeringdamper stabilizer & stainless steel flexible brake lines.
Over theyears I"ve added a Jeg"s electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, 4-rowradiator, bypass trans fluid cooler & extended deep sump oil pan, new steeringgear box, steering drag link & tie rod ends, front wheel bearings & seals, Class 3 towing hitch &wiring, new fuel tank sending units & rubber, carb rebuilt 2 years ago, locking gas caps, etc. The transfer case went out ayear after I purchased it so I had that professionally replaced at Denny’sTransmissions in Phoenix, as well as all the u-joints – no problems since thatwas rebuild.
I have put on less than3000 miles on this truck since 2012 and basically now drive less than 20 milesa year with it. Since I purchased it in 2001, I have put just over 23,000 miles on the rebuilt motor. I have anoil-change maintenance log in MS Excel and the oil has been changed once a year, whether it needed it (3k) or not. There are no cracks on the frame but the hood just crumbled while trying toclose it a few weeks ago – a common problem with these trucks. it still closesand opens fine. Also, there is a rusthole on the passenger side floor and a small one on the driver’s side floor (seethe photos). I know these can be fixedwith replacement pan parts – this is not serious ‘cancer’ like on trucks backeast. Very minor surface scratches/rust on bed. No rust elsewhere. Both front fenders have gotten a bit looseover the years and need to be re-secured to their mounts. The driver side door window doesn"t roll down and is missing the door panel, it might be in my attic where the original real window is stored. Lastly, the rear tail lights and dash lightsstopped working about 3 years ago. Ibought a headlight switch but never installed it, it goes with the truck. Someone with auto-electrical skills shouldhave no problems finding the problem and fixing this; I’m just no longer interestedin tracing it or fixing things like I used to. The truck starts up and runs with no issues, I can provide a video ofthat. I keep a trickle charger on thebattery, and I start it every few weeks, and I drive it to get gas or supplies, etc. It is plated in Arizona and passesemission here in Phoenix every year.
