Vehicle description
Here"s my 1977 280Z California up for sale. I think I"m the third owner. I got it way back in the early 90s with the intent to do a complete restoration. I spent a great deal of time working on the mechanical and when that was finished I had planned on doing the cosmetic work. I did do some cosmetic things to it like installing a new windshield, tinted the windows, some custom exhaust work, and I got the dent in the left rear fender pretty straight. It"s lowered. Guess who did that? HAHA! :D Yeah, I was young and dumb those days. I lowered it too low! It only had like 2 inches of clearance but boy would it bang corners. HAHA! :D In the back, you can see a set of springs that I got for it to raise it back up but never got to it. It had an annoying intermittent fuel injection problem which caused me to get a new airflow meter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and transistor ignition unit but I ultimately tracked it down to a rotted and cracked fuel line just before the fuel pump that was leaking in air bubbles intermittently. I got some new line and started working on it and then something attracted my attention and I never went back to it. It just sat in that spot for around 26 years. If you finished the fuel line and the fuel rail to fuel injectors lines weren"t too rotted it would probably start right up with some new gas and a new battery. It ran beautifully most of the time when I last had it running. It ran very strong back when I had it running too! The number 1 and 2 cylinders were burning oil but that could have been because the cylinder head wasn"t retorqued. I never got around to doing that. Another problem it had was the third gear synchros were going out so when you were really getting on it and shifting to third gear it would have issues going into gear, but any other time it was fine. The hood vents are missing and busted because of kids running around on it for a few years.
The rust you see on the body is superficial with the exception of the right and left front and back rocker panels which have through-hole rust spots about 1 inch in diameter.
It had a complete engine rebuild at about 115,000 miles, but I don"t have proof of that anymore. I had the paperwork in the glove compartment and the Nevada heat over 26 summers faded the ink on the paperwork so badly that it became illegible.
There is an error in the title, see the image. It said 280ZX and someone scribbled out the X. I never bothered to get the DMV to fix the error. It was never stolen or anything like that it"s just an error. If you run the VIN through the NICB database it comes out clean. https:/ www.nicb.org/vinchec
The box of miscellaneous spare parts is included. Everything seen in the interior is included.
There is a half dash cap sitting unattached on the dash. The actual dash is heavily cracked.
That"s about all I can remember about it. I kinda hate to sell it because I always think I"ll get back to working on it one day, but after 26 years I think it"s time to hand it over to someone who"ll actually find the time to do the work. Thanks for taking a look.
