Vehicle description
Here is my beautifully restored and upgraded 1976 FJ40. I have owned this truck for five years during which time it has undergone improvements making it one of the nicest Land Cruisers around. This vehicle is not for those who seek an all original or unrestored FJ40. Rather, this is for the enthusiast who seeks a comfortable and capable FJ40 that gets thumbs up everywhere it goes. I acquired the truck from the previous owner who performed the frame off restoration. The color is Toyota"s olive which was used from ‘72 up through ‘77. The bare metal re-paint was professionally done, and the truck has always been garage kept. This truck is rust free and all metal. The bodywork was done with labor intensive lead bodywork providing a durable all metal body which has held up very well. No dents and paint is 98%. Many parts are powder coated including the running boards, tire carrier, bumpers, wheels, light bezel and all the hinges. The lift gate is from a pre-‘75 FJ40. The lift gate supports are improved with internal gas struts allowing the lift gate to remain opened even while driving. The new hardtop windows slide open allowing open air driving with all 5 windows opened. Also included is a pair of hard to find front metal half doors that look really good with the top off and leaving only the front and rear half doors in place. The new front door hinges allow the doors to slide off the hinges without the need to unbolt the hinge from the door. The black leather seats on both drivers and passengers side are powered and came from a Porsche 911 (996). The seats are comfortable and matched well to a black leather steering wheel by MoMo. New headliner. The air conditioning is by Vintage Air and it works very well. The heater, including the rear heater, also works. All factory gauges work and are complimented with additional voltmeter, oil pressure and temperature gauges, and a tachometer. Tuffy console houses a Bluetooth Alpine headunit. There’s 4 Alpine speakers and subwoofer powered by 2 Pioneer amplifiers. The audio system sounds great. Custom fit rubber floor mats front and rear. Fire extinguisher and heavy duty bottle jack. Powertrain retains the original Toyota 4 speed transmission adapted to a small block Chevy motor with Holley carburetor, Edelbrock performer intake and DUI HEI distributor. Motor starts easily and runs great with plenty of torque. A ctual mileage on the engine is unknown, but it runs very good and has never given any problems. Optima battery sits on a custom fabricated mount. Headlights are converted to Hella H4 halogen. New heavy duty alternator. New 4 core aluminum radiator with custom fan shroud keeps everything running cool. Exhaust runs through ceramic coated ram horn manifolds, stainless Magnaflow muffler and a 3 inch single exhaust pipe. Original front discs and rear drum brakes recently serviced. Five new 33 inch BFG mud terrain tires turn easily with a Saginaw power steering conversion. Two and a half inches of lift on new Alcan leaf springs and Bilstein shocks. Rear 2 inch receiver hitch. The roll bar is removed but will be included with sale. I’ve added about 3,000 miles to this FJ40 during my ownership. Maintenance was performed routinely. This truck has been significantly updated, but still retains the character of a classic FJ40. Everything works, and the truck needs nothing except to be driven. One must see this truck to fully appreciate the quality and detail in workmanship. Clean Texas title. I can be reached by phone to answer any questions. (210)383-5846.
