Vehicle description
Few if any cars is a greater statement of the Hollywood excess and extravaganza from the 1970s than the Stutz Blackhawk Coupe. Everything with this landyacht of personal luxury screams large, loud and exclusive. Period marketing materials, tells tales of an art piece handcrafted in Italy, using australian lambswool carpets in the passenger compartment with 24-Karat gold surrounding the instrument cluster and a trunk lined with mink-fur. While the seats and dashboard is covered with Connolly-leather from the finest farms in northern-europe, bumpers and trim made was of double chrome plated brass just to top the list of exclusive and fine material used during the 1,500 hours it took to build each of these masterful automobiles.
We could probably continue talking about the build process and the details of these cars for a long, long time, but would rather get into the history of this specific example we are offering up for sale here; As all Stutz Blackhawks it is based on a Pontiac Grand Prix, sent over to Torino Italy for the process of becoming one the automotive history"s finest and most interesting creations, tailored to the request of the first owner. On the glove box-lid we can read from a gold plated plaque; Handcrafted in Italy, Especially for Mr. & Mrs. Vern Witt.”
Mr & Mrs. Witt of Beverly Hills, California would be the owners of this unique car until the year 1986 when it was sold to a Stutz-enthusiast living in Las Vegas, Nevada. The gentleman from Las Vegas kept the car in his personal collection, for what would become more than 20 years, until it in 2006 was acquired by the current owner and moved to Europe and Norway.
Today the car presents in a great condition, with only minor cosmetical marks, as to be expected from any vehicle with 62,000miles and more than 45 years since new. The current owner informs us that during his ownership some bodywork has been performed to the lower part for both doors where some minor surface rust had appeared. The work was performed professionally by a well reputed shop specialized in the restoration of unique classic cars, with an impressive level of quality. Beyond that there are no signs of previous bodywork, and no history of the car ever being damaged. As previously mentioned there are some very minor cosmetic imperfections, but overall the paint body and trim shows a really high standard, and have collected prices for best paint at local car shows in the past. The interior gives an overall good impression, with no major damage or defects. During our test-drive all gauges seemed to work as they should, and the car drove very smoothly and steadily down the road, with no unusual sounds or vibration of any kind. The current owner reports that the vacuum-control for the climate and cruise has been disconnected due to an unidentified leak, since this car is only driven in nice weather and A/C is not necessary in the Norwegian climate, this is not a repair he has prioritized as heat and defrost still works as it should. Power windows, power seats, power sunroof, and all the lights work flawlessly and the car gives us an impression of being in great mechanical condition. The Pontiac 455 V8 runs smoothly and quietly with no hesitation at any speed or load, and the suspension lets this car float down the road with a level of comfort worthy of its original price twice the one of a period Rolls Royce.
This is 1 of 21 known examples of the 1975 Stutz Blackhawk globally. He or she who becomes the next custodian/owner of this amazing automobile will benefit from an active and including global community with enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and experience with these exclusive vehicles.
This car is offered for sale on the behalf of the current owner through our dealership in south-east Norway. We will happily assist anyone with shipping to anywhere in the world. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or request more photos if desired.
