We have the honor to display, probably the last true original survivor.This 1928 Stutz Model BB rumble seat coupe (chassis BB74Y) is said to be 100% original apart from the tires. Owned by one family from new until 2001, the car was stored for nearly 70 years and has accumulated only 8,800 miles in the 91 years since it first rolled off the line on June 14th, 1928. Documented extensively with fascinating history, the seller tells how friend Phil Hill rebuilt the car’s rare factory Zenith carb for him, and how the car scored first place in the Prewar Preservation Class at Pebble Beach in 2007. Paint remains all original, and though quite a lot has fallen away over the years, what remains looks to be in very nice condition for its age. Mechanically runs perfect, get in and drive to any show. Powered by a straight, overhead cam eight (called a “vertical eight” by Stutz) displacing just under 300 cubic inches, these cars were among the fastest of their day thanks to a then quite impressive 110HP. The interior is nicely preserved and full of intricate, eye-catching details like side-scrolling speedometer, fuel level gauge, engraved nickel instrument surround and dash-mounted FEDCO chassis plate. Mohair cabin upholstery shows moth damage, but remains clean and strong.Stored rumble seat down, this compartment’s green leather survived without damage and looks to be in excellent condition.
