BARN FIND!
Brand New Convertible Top Installed on 6-5-15
350 ci - Automatic
Power windows
Factory Air works!
20" Dayton Knock Off Spoke Wheels
Pioneer Stereo with Bluetooth installed 10-01-2015.
I spent 8 hours taking the ash tray apart and installing the stereo inside it so it would fold up into the dash so you don’t even see it. I did this to maintain originality. We wouldn’t want to take out that factory in dash 8 Track. I don’t know about the 8 Track but the radio does work.
I bought this convertible on 6-5-15 to replace the motorcycle I had crashed thinking I was on the road to recovery. Not being able to ride again for quite some time I still wanted to be in the wind.
Well here I am 2 years later and still receiving medical bills. Having been out of work for so long I must let go of the Olds.
I would consider this car a barn find in unrestored original condition. I would say this car still maintains 98% of its original parts. I bought this car in Phoenix but the very little I learned from the owner was that it had been in Florida also.
When I bought this car I admit I had doubts of it being so low mileage. I have driven it about 4000 miles now and have found several clues that reinforce that it is truly a low mileage car.
The first is a 1981 sticker on the windshield that makes me believe this windshield is the original. What is interesting is that the windshield has no pitting or any other flaws.
On a high mileage car the Chrome around the windshield and on the front end will show wear due to bugs and road film. This chrome is clean and is in great shape.
I pulled the trim off of the front wheel to straighten it out and there was no rust behind the trim, (see pic).
Of course one of the easy things to identify is wear on the brake and gas pedals. These are in great shape.
The door hinges are like new! These doors are heavy and it is common for these hinges to show wear or just to be completely shot.
I pulled the spark plugs and they are still the original plugs that came in the car!
Having driven this car about 4000 miles now I am very impressed with how well it handles and how smooth the ride is. The steering is very tight
I had the oil changed in Phoenix when I bought the car. I watched the oil level at various times. It has not dropped at all and is only slightly discolored. The oil was again changed at 42310
The body is very straight with only one small ding where it looks like someone had swung a shop door into it on the back drivers quarter, Underneath the car is very clean with only surface rust. The floor pans are in great shape.
The paint is a 25 footer, needs repainted, but is ok for a driver.
The exhaust is also still original and needs replaced. It is quiet now but I have done a temporary repair.
This a great car but will need some tinkering to be even better.
It is ready to go and will drive any where. I drove it home to Durango, Co. from Phoenix, have driven it locally and 350 miles to Denver and back three times to the Doctors.
Please contact me with any questions.
