Vehicle description
For sale by private owner, 1976 Jaguar XJ6L
This vehicle is located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Ebay does not have provision for those with multiple residence. Because the car came from the US, it can go back at anytime without restriction . Shipping price isn"t affected at all. In fact, may be a bit less. Feel free to inquire if you have any questions. Please see our feedback. We have sold off most of our inadvertent collection (over 20 cars) to happy buyers. Thought we were done but, the Jaguar buyer never followed through. That was last summer. Then I decided to finally re-list again 3 weeks ago. We got left with a 2nd insincere buyer ( member Kunta Kinte).
This is a very solid Arizona car. We are only the 2nd owners. I"ll give you a quick synopsis of what the previous owner told me.
She and her husband bought the car new when she was relatively young. She described it as quite an elegant and sophisticated automobile that turned a lot of heads. She said there were not very many luxury import cars back then. It was very classy and she loved the attention and the looks.
Despite how magnificent the car looked, it was evidently terribly problematic and a lot of grief. Still, she loved that car SO MUCH that she explained how she could never bring herself to part with it.
After enough headache with the dealership service department, a solution was sought out. They found a specialized performance shop to install a brand new 350 engine bought from the Chevrolet GM dealership parts counter. She describes the car as being better than ever after and how she had so much fun with the incredible new power under her right foot ! !
Many years passed passed, a divorce, and a new Canadian husband entered her life. She and her car moved to Alberta. The car was parked away and not used. It was started up every now and then but, spent literally decades(!) behind a garage door. Over time, it made it"s way to storage at her adult son"s garage. Then back to her garage, then for a year on her driveway under a cover. That"s where I entered the picture. I inquired about the car and pursued purchase. Her husband wanted it GONE but was not very helpful. He couldn"t answer any questions about the car but clearly exhibited how he did not like the car one bit. At the time, I was confused. It was afterwards that I found out the old white Jaguar represented a magnificent past life with his wife"s lavish EX-husband. (my a-ha moment). Long story just about over. . After over 40 years, she reluctantly sold to me the car she swore she"d never sell.
And, so. . here we are. As much as I wanted, and was excited about this car, I"ve literally done nothing with it. I"ve driven it probably less than 100 miles in the entire time we"ve owned it. I"ve lost my enthusiasm for having many cars and being steward to them all. As mentioned, this one was sold but the buyer fell through last summer.
Overall the car runs fantastic and drives very well considering how long it"s sat. This is a great conversion and was done very well. Everything was converted with brand new GM parts, even the air conditioning. This was a relatively new and expensive car way back when the conversion was done. To this day, the car"s body is super solid and remarkably rust free. Best thing about this car is that it"s hilarious fun to drive. Old luxury cars are typically painfully slow. Not this one though. . this thing really moves. It"s so much better than you"d expect. It"s a real kick.
I"d like to be clear on what I feel the car"s negative points are. There is 1 hubcap missing. The rear seat needs to be reupholstered. Also, there are a couple leather (or vinyl?) cracks in the console. The door panels are semi-decent but, there are brand new door panels (not good used. . BRAND NEW) in the trunk. On that topic, my memory says the other hubcap may possibly maybe perhaps be in there too. The front seats are also brand new. They are gorgeous. Since I am selling our 2 last collection cars, I will play super safe and describe this as a project car. No reason specifically, except I"d rather promise less and deliver more. And there"s not much else to say. To be on the overly cautious side, I"d say to please understand that this car has been stored a very long time and used very little since. It could probably benefit from a good solid "once-over", tuning, fluid changes, and thorough inspection of belts/hoses and anything else. Even though it runs and drives fine, and appears to function well. . I"m not a mechanic. I don"t think anyone advertising a used car should make claims that their vehicle is in perfect operating order (that is, unless they are a licensed mechanic). As such, I"ll describe this as an as-is project car.
Shipping / Delivery
Over the course of selling off over 20 cars, my (very understanding and accommodating) wife has actually become pretty good with setting everything up and looking after this for people. Please see feedback. She"ll be happy to help you too. We"ve found that shipping is normally in the 1,500 dollar range to most states. Far away destinations such as Texas are usually about 2250. Florida is the furthest and has been 2,500. There are no special forms or papers that you"ll have to take care of.
I"m pretty determined on sending this car off to a happy new owner that"ll do something with, and appreciate it. With that in mind, we"ve decided to sell UNRESERVED.
I encourage anyone to write with any questions. We"re glad to help. If you"d like to speak over the phone, I"d be happy to arrange.
Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
