Vehicle description
This is a once in a lifetime chance to buy my beloved 2002 Turbo owned since 1987 with one previous owner. I don’t want to sell this car and I never thought I would have to but for one lucky person out there I might think about it for a short time only! There is more history, accessories, spares, photos, awards and documentation for this particular car than most. It has been loved, raced, toured, towed, repaired, restored and modified into the BEAST it now is. 300BHP of reliable racing madness. “But here is the story” – Fräulein Needs A Makeover – she has rust appearing and she need a total body strip and dip before it becomes a problem – don’t get me wrong there is no weakness or issues and she has a current MOT and is road safe and legal – but at some point very soon it will be time to make it all right perfect again. At some point in the 80’s I got fed up of breaking down and AA recovery trucks, you can read the story in the photographs, I modified and made the car reliable, really really reliable and really really fast as a result! During the last 30years of ownership the car’s value has skyrocketed and perfect original examples are now exchanging hands for over £70,000 in Europe and $110,000 USA So here is my problem – I don’t want the ‘original’ it didn’t work for me then, it wont work for me now. It is the most fantastic car and was made for driving, trust me I have lived with one for more than 30 years I know, but simply speaking it was the first production turbo charged car and basically would burn its non-intercooled turbo up every 1000miles and the mechanical fuel injection – well there is nothing good I can say about the KKK, injection or otherwise! So I modified my car and take a look at what and where she has been over the last 30 years and driven back home after! - Hello Nürburgring ;) So based on current values only an idiot would restore this car and not put it back into ORIGINAL all round shape, Turbo, Injection, Breaks and Rims and maximise his or her investment, the problem is “I’m that Idiot” and if I do it, its going to remain Modified, Better, Faster and Reliable. So while I wrestle with my conscious as to how I will handle the restoration – Original vs. Modified I have decide that if someone out there would like a chance to buy my car with a view to making it original again and maximise their profits – I would allow this fitting retirement to what has been a most awesome 30 years of motoring and let my car become original again. I have most of the original parts, spare spoilers, arches, manual’s, books, brochures – literally a whole suitcase of documentation and history. So the math! A Perfect example costs say $100k – less restoration: strip, soda blast, paint, reassemble and budget for the few original parts I don’t have to replace and un-modify around $30k – depending on your abilities and resourcefulness and another 10k for whatever …. If you got this car for somewhere around $60k and you were not doing it for yourself and didn’t manage to make money reselling, then I wouldn’t be the only idiot to have owned it! Auction open - $60,000 - That’s £48k in old money!
