Vehicle description
This 1972 BMW 2002 underwent partial refurbishment with its previous longterm owner in the early 2000s and was stored as a stalled project from 2004 until the seller’s acquisition in early 2017. Power is from a 2.0L M10 inline-four fitted with an E21 cylinder big valve head, dual Weber 40 carburetors, Stahl header, Ansa exhaust and more. Shifting is through a 4-speed manual transmission. Work performed under current ownership included resealing of the engine, a fluid change, and a brake service as well as installation of a new radiator, clutch, and transmission linkage. This 2002 is offered with recent records and a clean North Carolina title.
The previous owner performed paint and bodywork in the early 2000s according to the seller, who believes the work to have resulted from accident damage to the front end. Everything has been repaired and functions properly. The Atlantik paint is the original color to the car as verified by BMW.
Slim chrome bumpers are fitted with overriders and rubberized guards front and rear. This round-taillight example retains stock US-market lighting including side markers, inboard rear lights, and amber turn signals. A set of yellow tinted driving lights is mounted to the front bumper.
The interior is finished in black contrasted by blue carpets. A set of E21 Recaro front seats and a Nardi steering wheel are fitted, and a Motorola radio and centrally-mounted speaker are present in the stock locations. The speedometer is said to be functional though the odometer is not, rendering the 33k miles shown inaccurate. Total mileage is unknown.
The battery has been relocated to the trunk, additional photos of which show the spare tire well and shock towers in greater detail. The spare wheel is not currently secured or fitted with a tire.
The 2.0L M10 four is fitted with an E21 cylinder big valve head and a pair of Weber 40 sidedraft carburetors. Since purchasing the car the seller has removed the engine for resealing, with photos of the service provided in the gallery below. Work performed by the seller is detailed in a bulleted list in the gallery, and includes the following: Resealed bottom-end, including new rear main seal New water pump New timing chain and guides New starter and alternator New engine and transmission mounts E21 big-valve head with new valves and HD valve springs IE Motorsports 292 billet camshaft 123Tune Bluetooth distributor Stahl header and Ansa exhaust New clutch, lightened flywheel, transmission input seal and new clutch hydraulics Recored radiator Remanufactured brake booster H&R Sport Springs installed from Rogerstii Many more pictures available upon request!
