Vehicle description
1972 international Scout project. This auction is for a 1972 international scout 4x4 project with 345 cu in v8 and manual 4 speed transmission. The body is virtually rust free, but the top has some rust around the left rear window at the bottom and above the doors, the top can easily be fixed and is worth saving. This Scout was originally bought by Caltrans (California State Hwy Dept) and still has the service plate on the door jamb. In the 1970s The state sold their vehicle with less than 100k miles on them.It was probably driven by a supervisor and was used in the Tahoe Hwy. 50 area. California doesn’t used salt on the road only sand so the body is excellent condition. The engine runs good, I put a new water pump on and master cylinder. It has the original orange paint with some touch up here and there and it still had the Caltrans emblems on the doors that someone started to remove, I cleaned it up and touched up the paint and it matches pretty good. It’s a project and hasn’t been driven for a few years and besides the top work needs a fuel tank, one headlight ring is missing, the tail latch is broken. The body is pretty straight with a few small dents down low on the doors and behind the left rear wheel but it very solid metal. The floors are good the bottoms of the doors, hardly any rust on the body just the top. The seats are black vinyl and the rear is very good the fronts have a couple rips, but don’t look bad. The engines starts easily, but, since it’s been sitting probably needs the carb rebuilt, it runs fine but I thinks it’s running a little rich. The back bumper has some cracks. It just generally needs going through and checking out. Its out of the DMV system so selling with a bill of sale, it hard to get to the DMV right now. Like I say it’s a project, but wouldn’t take but a few days to be a driver and it’s a good candidate for complete restoration. I have a new set of aftermarket front hubs for it and a better windshield, that one has a crack.I can store it for awhile if time is need to pick it up. It has an 8000 lbs PTO winch
