Vehicle description

Rare original survivor, 1 of only 1,075 produced 1972 Dodge Charger 2 door hardtops in the following configuration (sales codes in parenthesis): "H" Code 340 Cubic Inch Engine (E55)
Automatic Transmission (D34) Rallye Package (A57)
This very unique Charger was factory assembled with the following options making it even more rare: Vinyl Bucket Seats (E6Y3) Console (C16) Power Steering (S77) AM Radio (R11) 3:23 Sure-Grip Differential (D91)b Tuff Steering Wheel (S84) Tinted Glass (G11) Forced Upper Level Ventilation (H41) Dual Chrome Mirrors (G37) Hood Tie-Down Pins (J45) I/P Mounted Hood Release (J52) Rear Speaker (R31) F70X14 RWL Tires.
I special-ordered this Charger in the seldom seen Dark Gold Metallic (GY9) paint color from Hanover Motors Inc. in Hackettstown, New Jersey on October 28, 1971 and took delivery on November 20,1971. According to the "A28" of the Vehicle Order Number on the Broadcast Sheet, this Charger had a scheduled production date of October 28, 1971 at the Lynch Road, Michigan assembly plant making it one of the early production 1972 model year Dodge Charger Rallyes. I still have all supporting original owner documentation including the sales paperwork, build sheet, MSRP window sticker, owners manual, and original New Jersey license tag and registration. I had to surrender the original New Jersey Certificate of Title in order to obtain a Florida title when I moved to in 1974 and, unfortunately, I failed to make a copy of it. . To this day, this classic B-body Mopar still retains its original Light Gold interior and factory-applied paint from the doors back, and is in nearly "as-built" condition with the exception of the following performance modifications and upgrades: The matching numbers engine has less than 4,000 miles since being rebuilt in 1987 with a mild street/strip hydraulic cam and 1971 cylinder heads. The stock electronic control unit (black box) has been replaced with a Chrysler high performance electronic control unit (blue box). The original transmission has been replaced with a Turbo-Action street/strip transmission, converter, and manual shift valve body. The 3:23 rear gear has been replaced with a 3:91 gear. (I also have a new-in-the-box 8-3/4" differential assembly complete with 3:91 gear that will go with car.)
The factory 14" steel wheels have been replaced with 15" Weld aluminum wheels. (I still have the Keystone Klassic mag wheels shown in the photos along with a set of OEM 15" steel wheels and dog-dish hub caps that will go with the car). The original front bumper, grille, valance pan, right front fender and hood were replaced and the front clip repainted in 1974 due to a run-in with a farm horse that had wandered out of its stable in the middle of the night. An aftermarket (Auto-Meter) electronic tachometer has been mounted on the steering column with a large hose clamp and be easily removed, The 5/16" fuel line from the fuel pump to carburetor has been removed and replaced with a 3/8" aluminum fuel line and aftermarket (Moroso) "Cool Can".
Since new, this Charger has racked up quite a drag-racing history over the years in the NHRA Stock Class as well as the ET Bracket Series categories while still being used as a primary daily driver until 1978 after which it became a weekend cruiser. In July of 1972, with approximately 5,000 miles on this factory bone-stock Charger, I won the D/SA class at the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown, New Jersey and repeated with another win in the J/SA class at the same event the next year. I also eclipsed the then-current NHRA minimum speed record mark of 95 MPH for D/SA at both the Englishtown and the Atco, New Jersey 1972 NHRA Division I points races. Early-on in the 1972 NRHA Divisional and National racing season, I was the leading points earner for Dodge in NHRA"s coveted Manufacturer"s Cup Championship. I last raced the Charger at the 2-day 2008 All-Mopar Southern Nationals at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia where it won the Street ET bracket class on the first day and was runner-up in the same class on the second day. The following factory items were removed for racing purposes but will be included with the car along with the previously mentioned items: Windshield Washer Tank with Pump Front Anti-Sway Bar Assembly Front Bumper Bracket This 3rd generation Charger"s outward appearance would eliminate it from "show queen" status, but it has just the patina expected of a nearly 50-year old well cared for daily driver that has also had its fair share of weekend "extra curricular" excursions a quarter mile at a time. As previously noted, the front clip was repainted in 1974 and now shows peeling and faded paint that would justify a professional respray. However, with the exception of a dent and scratches in the lower right rear quarter panel (see photo), the remainder of the factory exterior paint from the doors reward is still in relatively good condition for its age and, in my opinion, should remain as is since it is only original once.
Please ask any questions prior to placing your bid. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time so I strongly recommend serious bidders to BID EARLY and BID TO WIN. The winning bidder is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. I welcome and encourage inspection of this vehicle by a prospective bidder or designated individual. This vehicle is sold "as-is" with no warranty expressed or implied.
This vehicle is currently tagged and insured in the state of Florida and is 100% street legal. It remains stored in an enclosed trailer and is driven very sparingly. All lights, gauges, accessories, and mechanical/electrical systems function as they should, however, with this being a 47-year old vehicle with over 123,838 miles on the odometer, normal wear and tear is to be expected. I have a large collection of receipts from most repairs and maintenance performed since new including replacing the radiator, hoses, belts, alternator, starter, batteries, master cylinder, tires, and general service/tune-up related items.
