Vehicle description
1972 Datsun 240-Z in Avocado Green. 74,588 original miles. 4-speed manual transmission. Originally purchased on July 27, 1972 at Universal City Datsun.
This 1972 Datsun 240-Z was purchased new from Universal City Datsun in Los Angeles by the original owner just before enlisting for the Vietnam War. When he moved to Hawaii in 1974 he arranged for storage with the owner"s father in Burbank, CA. In 1995 it was moved to Coarsegold, CA and stored in a garage. It was the owner"s wish to store the car in California rather than Hawaii to eliminate any risk of saltwater damage or damage during transport across the Pacific. He would drive and maintain the car upon his many trips back to visit family.
The original owner moved back to California in 2012 and moved the car to his home in Oakhurst. In 2014, he began work to clean out the engine and update some mechanical parts to get the car into full working condition. This includes removing and installing the front and rear struts, replacing the heater hose, replacing the choke light, the timing belt, fan belt, and repairing a minor leak in the transmission. Also replaced were the water pump, master cylinder, and brake calipers. The owner kept meticulous notes of all work done.
The title transferred to the owner"s wife upon his death on September 30, 2019. The car was driven from Oakhurst to Los Angeles in November 2019 and is kept in a garage to prevent exposure to the elements.
Everything on the car is original, including the interior, factory wheels, wooden shift handle, factory radio, factory gauges, and steering wheel. Also included is the original factory owner"s manual and warranty and service booklet issues by the dealership. Two sets of keys are included, both original and one set with Datsun badging. There is minor cosmetic damage to the exterior, including a scratch on the driver"s side door, and paint damage around the passenger side headlight. The driver"s seat is also in need of reupholstery but the passenger seat is in fantastic condition with original upholstery.
Also included is a car cover, snow chains, and full size spare in the trunk, as well as the original brochure advertising the car, which is a great addition to this collector"s piece.
This is being sold by the original owner"s family.
