Exterior Color: Grey Interior Color: Blue Body Type: Sedan Transmission: Automatic Drivetrain: RWD Fuel Type: Gasoline Engine: 6.3L V8 Mileage: 67,784 The Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3 is often credited as the precursor to the brand"s now-ubiquitous performance subdivision: AMG. Started as a company engineer"s private venture, the 300SEL 6.3 is a german muscle car in a fine European suit. Erich Waxenberger, a Mercedes mechanical engineer and performance enthusiast, took the current 300SEL and swapped its 3.0L in-line six-cylinder engine for the 6.3L V8 from the Mercedes 600 Pullman. The result was phenomenal and was approved for production almost instantly. Externally, little differentiated it from its six-cylinder counterpart but, mechanically, little remained the same. The mechanically fuel-injected V8 produced 247 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, propelling the 3900-pound sedan to 62 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds. With a 142 mile per hour top speed, the 300SEL 6.3 became the world"s fasted four-door sedan. Keeping the luxury saloon stable at high speeds was a newly-developed, self-adjusting air suspension, aided by vented disc brakes on all four corners. The car earned a reputation for offering a previously unseen combination of luxury and performance and quickly earned a place as a highly desirable piece of Mercedes" history.
This 1971 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3 is an excellent example, finished in grey over a deep blue leather interior with a desirable factory sunroof. The timeless combination perfectly suits the classic styling of the 300SEL. The car is in excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically and has been well-cared for throughout its life. Now offered for sale on behalf of its third owner, this 6.3 has been maintained by our technicians for the last 12 years and shows just 67,000 original miles. A turn-key classic and one of only 6,500 300SEL 6.3s ever made, this car presents a fantastic opportunity to own one of the most historically significant performance sedans Mercedes has ever produced.
