Vehicle description

2/1971 Datsun 240Z 3rd owner, originally a Palm Springs, CA car.
I bought the car in primer grey and I drove it around like that until I had the idea to repaint it in the original 920 Gold color. I only found one local shop that would take care of the scuffs, etc and all of the prep/seal/paintwork. The color came out about 2 shades too light, but I grew to like it very much. Both doors are fresh units from a local Z boneyard. They appear to be a slightly different color in the pictures, but I have never noticed much of a difference in person. They were painted at the same time as the rest of the car. The driver"s door was scratched by a bicyclist a few years ago (after the paintwork) and I hastily covered the damage with a sticker.
It sleeps in the garage and I have enjoyed it so so so much. Putting decent tires on the car makes it truly a wonderful car to drive in the mountains. The exhaust note with the resonator is delightful and I could listen to it under load all day long. The transmission shifts smoothly and the engine has a steady idle and revs through the entire range. Pretty quick car, too! Short Driving Video showing 1st and 2nd gear Essentials:
-L28 Flattop Pistons -N47 Head with Comp Cams 84-123-4 280deg Camshaft -Triple Weber 40DCOE with Canon intake manifold -Mishimoto aluminum radiator -Mallory Distributor with electronic ignition -Headers -2.5" exhaust with Vibrant resonator and Magnaflow muffler -5-speed close ratio transmission from 280z -4.11 R180 open differential -Electric fuel pump -Techno Toy Tuning Ground Control Coilovers (225r/200f rates) with shortened strut housings -Rota Grid 15x8 -Toyota 4x4 front brake calipers
Other:
-Repainted in 920 gold (a few shades too light, but the color grew on me and gets a lot of attention) -Refurbished door hinges -Original bumpers -Moonroof installed in 1980"s which tilts and is very nice to have when the weather is warm -Newer tie rod ends -Some polyurethane bushings installed -New ignition tumbler -Newer front Timkin bearings and seals -Optima Red Top sealed battery -MT-90 in the gearbox -Mobil synthetic in the motor -Solid floors with no rust -Home brew rear strut bar which may or may not provide additional structural rigidity
The bad:
-Seats could use a new covers and the driver"s seat needs some foam -The dash has the normal cracks in the middle -The clock doesn"t work -The brake booster has a leak and is disconnected -There is bubbling at the wheel arches (cut out and add flares) -There is some rust on the passenger dogleg -The hatch weatherstripping could use more glue -The ignition key doesn"t unlock the doors -The driver"s door doesn"t lock -Both the front main seal and the oil pan leak some oil -It sprung a leak by the heater core valve 2 years ago and I disconnected the heater hoses from the motor -The driver"s mirror (amazon $30) is missing the glass so it"s difficult to use at the moment -The fuse box is in need of refurbishment/replacement. -The combination switch was replaced, but the turn signal stalk is original. -The wiring for the turn signal/lights needs to be addressed. The headlights/running lights work, but they require a manual connection at the moment. -I rarely run more than 8 gallons in the fuel tank because the smell comes in through either a cracked evaporation line or the fuel filler tube. -I run the car on 91 octane with a touch of 110 octane leaded fuel to eliminate detonation while keeping the timing advanced. -The occasional smoke from the tailpipe says a ring job is not too far off. -The lower fender Datsun emblems are missing (I never had them) -The shift boot needs to be replaced -The moonroof weatherstrip has some residual paint on it and the moonroof leaks sometimes
Extras:
-Original steering wheel and horn pad included -Original Engine (no carbs), transmission, differential can be freighted to the buyer if desired for an additional fee -There is a choke cable installed, but I disconnected it -I can include a paint matched (used with scuffs) Xenon urethane front valence if desired. I switched back to the stock valence because I think it looks cleaner
I think I covered most of it, but I"m sure there will be some items to uncover. The photos are unedited (except for the license plate smudges) and were taken on 2/18/21 late afternoon. I can provide videos and/or additional pictures if needed. Please ask any and all questions! I"m listing vehicle locally and I will pull it from ebay if it sells. Thank you for your consideration.
