Vehicle description
This 1970 Datsun 240Z is powered by its factory 2.4-liter L24 inline-six and a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the seller nine years ago and is believed to have been in California since new. Modifications include European-market bumpers, removal of door handles and most trim, and the installation of an electronic door opener, electronic ignition, and an aftermarket stereo and wheels. A head rebuild was performed by Z Expert Automotive of Los Angeles, California in April 2018. This Series 1 S30 is offered with partial service records, partial factory tool kit, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. A repaint in factory Yellow (919) was commissioned by the seller in 2011 at Glendale Z of Glendale, California, and the hood, rear hatch, windshield, and window seals were reportedly replaced at the same time. Modifications include European-market bumpers, shaved door handles and brightwork, removal of the radio antenna, and an electronic driver-side door opener. I would rate the Exterior a 7/10 and the interior a 7/10
Silver Konig Rewind wheels are mounted with Falken Ziex ZE329 tires. Corrosion is noted on both doors and the rear hatch seams. The Hood and Passenger sugar scoop are a slightly different shade of yellow due to a fresh spray of those components.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl and retains its factory faux wood steering wheel. The stock diamond-pleated side panel trim has been replaced with carpet, and an Alpine stereo with Bluetooth connection has been fitted. A dash cap covers the original dash. Headliner is drooping in the front. Photos detail the condition of the interior materials in the gallery.
Approximately 27k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, with 20k added by the seller over nine years of ownership. The speedometer reportedly reads 10-15mph fast, and the odometer is believed to have rolled over once. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six retains its factory SU carburetors and is fitted with a 1971 model air filter housing. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. The transmission was rebuilt in 2014 with new synchros and seals. The flywheel was resurfaced and a new clutch was installed, along with a throwout bearing, pilot bushing, and a new speedometer gear and cable. The seller has added an electronic ignition, and Z Expert Automotive of Los Angeles, California performed the following work in April 2018: Welded the head to repair a crack New valves New valve guides New valve seats New lash pads Installed head gasket Installed flange gasket Timing chain inspection
This car runs and drives beautifully and is looking for a new owner to restore it to its fullest potential. This car will be sold as is, no warranty,
