Vehicle description
Up for auction is my 1969 Olds Cutlass which has only 48740 actual miles on it. I bought this car about a year ago from a gentleman who has owned it the past 20 years and only drove it on nice days. The car has virtually no rust if not for slight surface rust in some areas, and all outer body panels & floor boards are solid. The frame is also very solid, even in the back around the fuel tank. This car is a driver, not a show car, though it would be easy to bring to that level. All it would take is some detailing under the hood, a high quality paint job, and a little TLC in the interior which is already in pretty decent shape. It would also need to have the new top installed that I am selling with the car, and is part of this sale . Make no mistake though, this car would still be at home in your local home town car shows, and get attention just the way it sits right now. I had it in one last summer, and people kept saying "nice car." I may be a little over critical of her though, because I had a beautiful "show car" before this one. I bad thing about having one that nice though is you hate to even drive it. As far as the paint on this car, it does shine pretty good though with a fresh wax on it. It does have one bad spot which is a chip on the right front of the hood. It can be seen in the pictures. But over all not too bad.
Okay enough about the cosmetics, lets talk about the mechanics. It is perfectly capable of driving home, but there are a few minor things. The first is the gas gauge which can be seen in the pictures as being way over full. I have diagnosed this as a bad meter inside the tank. The gauge will read empty if you ground the wire that connects to the tank unit, and the meter is an open circuit. The next thing is the engine cranks over slow and the starter current draw is higher than it should be. It will need to have the starter replaced pretty soon. The brakes are in good shape, with some new parts. It also has a new battery, alternator, voltage regulator, and fuel pump. Most of which can be seen in the pictures.
As for the running gear it has a 350 rocket w/2bbl carb, 3 speed TH350 trans, and an open olds 10 bolt rear-end. All operate as they should and sound good with no abnormal noises, as you would expect from a car with only 48K miles.
Well, I can"t think of anything else to say. Well I guess I could tell you why I"m selling the car, and NO I don"t want to sell it. However, when Uncle Sam comes calling, and you have no other means to foot the tax bill then you have no choice. I did make one last pitch to the wife, but she doesn"t think we could live in the car, and wasn"t willing to give up the house to try, so here we are. You might notice the strange starting bid amount, and that would be the exact amount Uncle Sam wants from me, so here you go.
Good luck, and happy bidding. I think I covered everything, but let me know if you have questions.
