Hello and welcome to a Fantastic Classic Cadillac Storage Find here in Western Colorado. This 1968 Cadillac "Calais Coupe" is a "Very Rare One" for sure, with only ( 8,165 Units Produced ) it has had only 2 Owners and has been Babied since new. (THIS IS NOT THE NORMAL MANY "COUPE DEVILLE"S" ) The car has NEVER been completely repainted, or damaged in any way. No body work of any kind has been detected, or reported by 2 owners, or by the professional inspection. The entire life of this beautiful Cadillac Calais 2 Door Hardtop has been in Dry Western Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona. The Classic Cadillac has always been inside and covered its entire life. The Padded Blue Factory Dash and Cadillac Blue Steering Wheel attest to this, as they are both perfect with no cracking, or peeling, splits of any kind, as is the norm in hot desert sun cars. The dry life area of western Colorado has preserved this Classic Cadillac as close to factory perfect sheet metal as possible, with the underside only having some rain and dust splash discoloration. A complete underside detail would bring this car up another notch if showing in a "unrestored original class" classic. Gas tank could actually look brand new with just steel wool cleaning. This car has the potential to be one of the best untouched detailed originals left to judge by, for any Purest Cadillac Collector. All Factory Build Marks and Factory code paint marks, are still present everywhere. The gas door code, the extra battery tray mark code, the colored paint dots on the axel ends etc. . All as shown in the many detailed pictures. The Cadillac has all the original Lights and Stacked Headlights all with the Diamond T-3 Headlight Originals working just fine. All 5 Original Kesey Hays Grey Steel Factory Wheels and GM Cadillac Full Hub Caps. All Door and Trunk and Bumper stops, Weatherstrips are original to the car, window fuzzies, rubber seals, are all soft and in perfect shape! All the GM Original Factory Glass is Original to the Car as the LOF codes show and has the beautiful Blue Tint from the Factory. Only one small spot on the passenger side of the front windshield has a slight semi circle of discoloration far away from any view in far upper corner, (halfmoon of a silver dollar size). Main Windshield is Fantastic for a 53 year old car, with no bad rock chips at all, but for 3-4 very small mini specks.
All Pot Metal Chrome and All Stainless Trim Is the best I have ever seen of a car of this age. Almost 10-10 Rates at a 9.8!
The Overall Exterior Paint & overall Paint Qualities: Rated at 88% Original Paint Overall, It will still rate at 8.5 out of 10 in Original paint category, and for partial touchup, & for partial minor re-spray judging. The areas of most "concern in judging" are the top of the trunk lid (small mini checking & some discolor blotches) the center of the hood (thin in two spots) and the drivers door, (three very small dings shown) the only respray touch up was the very top, upper rear deck tray, lower front fenders- the lower splash-up panels, all painted back in 1980"s. All other touch ups are for normal small rock chips and slight scratches as shown, as best as possible. For original Paint this still rates at 8.0 to 9.0 paint work overall. If you want "perfect show car paint", move on to a restored car! . . this is a unrestored car! They are only Original Once!
INTERIOR IS ALL ORIGINAL: HEADLINER, CARPET, SEATS, DOOR PANELS, DECK SHELF, VISORS, ALL MINT ORIGINAL, RATES 9 OUT OF 10. . slight discolor on entry carpet driver side area, one blemish on front seat- 1/2 of a dime size, a non smoking car, lighter end is-as new, unused.
The History of this Classic "68 Cadillac is the Original Owner Purchased the Car in Denver, Colorado at the Rickenbaugh Cadillac Dealership in 1968 and drove it to Grand Junction, Colorado where she resided and drove the car only in perfect weather and never in winter as she drove to Phoenix, Arizona for every winter until she put the car away in the late 70"s. She sold the car in the early 1980s and it was purchased by a elderly Gentleman with 45,700 miles showing on the title marked "actual miles". He then continued the care and pampering of the car until 2020. The car has always been here in Grand Junction, Colorado and has never been driven in snow, or in any bad road conditions. The overall condition underside show this! The car now shows Actual Miles at 91,350. Original 1968 Cadillac Owners manual in the Glove Box as shown. The Spare Tire is new and perfect and is from the 1970s Era, All 4 NEW Optima Radial Tires on the Car with only 50+ Miles on them. Odometer and Trip-Ometer both work perfect and all gauges and Buzzer for key all work perfect. All doors, hood, trunk, and side windows and wing windows, all operate like still in the showroom and the fit is perfect! !
Some Options: remote exterior mirror, door edge guards, tinted glass, power seat, power antenna, power windows, Wonderbar Radio, power steering, power brakes, full wheel covers, A/C, tripometer, 2 speed wipers with washers, day night mirror, tinted safety plate ez-eye glass, factory seatbelts for Six and front upper harness belts never used.
The car starts with a touch to the key and idles great and has no smoke, or bad leaks. It drips some small power steering fluid from all the sitting, but reseals if driven on a constant level. The rear end has just had a "evac" done and new rear end fluid installed, also engine was fully serviced of all fluids, filters just done . Front end is tight and steering has no slop. Braking is pure and straight to the stop. RARE Telescopic and Tilt Steering Column, works beautiful! Power 6-Way Front Bench Seat, Headlight high beams, brake lights, heater, a/c, fan, Wonderbar Radio seeks, power antenna up down nice, power windows all function perfect. Blinkers all work but the lever needs to be held up or down for the indicators to show. The normal blinker click lock is not functioning. Blinker rod must be held to activate blinkers. A/C operates and it is cold but might need a upcharge to blow colder as it is not hot here currently to check.
