Vehicle description

Stunning 1967 Austin Healey 3000 BJ-8 Mk III powered by a 2.9L inline-six mated to a four speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Comes with British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. Features chrome bumpers, fender-mounted mirror, hood scoop, black soft top, burl wood dash, banjo-style steering wheel, and a black leather interior.
Excellent condition with recent maintenance work including a fresh professional paint job in the original BRG-dark. This is the “Big Healey” and a very impressive classic car with lots of original parts and paperwork documenting the car’s life. 2 owner vehicle (previous owner had the car from September of 1968 until April of 2020. Well loved and cared throughout. A true piece of automotive history.
Car was first purchased in 1967 from a dealership in Newport, RI by the original owner. Shortly after, the car was sold by the first owner to his fellow Navy man in September of 1968. This second owner has been with the car until April of 2020, when we acquired it. This car followed the second owner throughout his Navy career, which entailed some legendary Coast to Coast road trips in the 1970s. Being on active duty in Navy, he was sent out to bases in both Rhode Island and California.
Years and many memorable miles later, the car eventually made its’ way back to Massachusetts in 2001. During this year, the carburetors and speedometer were rebuilt. When the car was not being loved by this Navy Lieutenant, it was stored in a heated warehouse, where he could assure the integrity of this vehicle would be cared for.
Throughout the early 2000s, the car was driven and enjoyed with no issues. Eventually it had to be taken off the road due to owner’s health issues. It was stored in a heated warehouse (with other classic cars) when it was not being driven. After we acquired the car this summer, we had the same mechanic that worked on this car in the past go through the car and refresh any system that needed repair. Along with the carbs being adjusted and a recent tune up, we had the front brake lines replaced, and caliper pistons cleaned and replaced. Along with this maintenance we had a fresh professional paint job done in the original factory color, dark British Racing Green (including the wheel wells). It came out gorgeous and showcases the beautiful curvature of this classic car’s lines.
Car is in great condition both cosmetically and mechanically. Body and frame are clean and straight, Chrome bumpers (with overriders) and chrome trim are clean and shines brilliant next to the deep dark green hues. The car is presented with the original convertible top which opens and closes smoothly (one small .5” rip present). Top has a rear window that can be unzipped and folded down for better airflow and rear view vision. Comes mounted on the four original chrome wire wheels (which was a more expensive option to include back in ’67) with knock-off hubs. Original black leather interior shows beautifully with no rips or tears. Seats are still very comfy and hug the driver when enjoying tight turns.
Odometer was sent out to be refurbished in 2001, currently reads 2,071 miles. After a conversation with the owner’s wife, it is estimated the car has about 60k miles, but true mileage unknown. Original gauges, lights and horn all work. 140mph speedometer. Original radio makes static sound. Original burl wood walnut dash has some cracking. New seat belts from Moss Motors. All lenses are clear and windows roll up smoothly. Doors close straight. Engine sounds healthy and pulls strong. Original four speed transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. Overdrive works well. Engine bay presents well. A true BRC driving experience.
Car is sold with previous registration and bill of sale only (was never titled due to car’s age). Serious bidders only, please ask any questions before bidding or bring your mechanic with you to check out the car in person before placing a bid. $500 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hrs.
