Vehicle description
1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible! 31, 867 Miles. Same owner since 1984. Was Bought then to have 25,561 Miles. Was repainted at some point before 1984. This is a K code car which for the comet means its a 289 Cubic inch with a 4 Barrel. It has an automatic transmission, power convertible top and power steering. This car has been parked in a heated garage since 1984 and has not been driven much in the last 5 years. We are the Good News Mountaineer Garage and we receive donated cars with the intend of refurbishing and giving back out to low income working families in West Virginia. We are funded by our state Department of Health and Human Resources. Sometimes we get things donated that is not something we would give away. In those circumstances we try to market and sell. The money made from this sale will go toward our cause. The amount of the sale will also be a deduction for the donor. The donor has put together a wonderful documentation of the cars history which will be included. I have more pictures but exceeded the amount aloud by Ebay. Since the donation I have drained the gas and added new. I have also installed a new battery. The car has a lot of misc. parts that goes with it like trim pieces, extra hubcaps, a car cover and all the license plates the owner had on it since she owned it. Her work moved her around from a few different states but it has remained the same owner. I have driven the car 126 miles since it was donated but that was all local. I would encourage any would be bidders to come and see the car before bidding. I would also recommend towing or hauling the car. The car is in Masontown WV, NOT Charleston WV. At 29k miles in 2005 the car had a lot of work done like, the gas tank was lined with Polysulfide, rebuilt carb, rebuilt the heads including new valves, new heater core, new water pump, replaced all the wheel brake cylinders and replaced all five tires with radials and also 4 new shock absorbers. A couple things I know of is the right rear window rolls up hard, when it is all the way up if you close the front door they would hit each other. I have driven with the rear down a little to keep them from hitting. The drivers seat will not adjust up or back. I have manually done it from under the seat but the seat moves real hard. The engine boot has a small tear. (see pic) The engine will smoke a little when it first starts or you accelerate quickly while driving. The car is 56 years old. It shows well but it does have some scuffs and scraps. It has a dent in the drivers rear quarter panel around the trim piece which I have included a picture of. The price will start at $10k, I will not take less than that because we have been offered that local. In order for the donor to receive a fair tax deduction we have to sell by auction. If a bid is made we will let the auction run its course, we will not pull off at the last minute. This car is for sale. Balance due within 48 hours unless something has been worked out prior. Must pay for by cash in hand or wire transfer. We will not accept a cashiers check because they are often duplicated. Also, we are a licensed dealer and whomever buys the car will have to transfer title into their name. We cannot give out an open title. It is illegal so please don"t ask. I do have more pictures of the frame and such but just could not add anymore to ebay. Thanks for looking and good luck, Ron
