Well, folks, I need to make room at my house, so it"s time to part with my 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SB.
This is a great car. In the mid to late 50"s, Mercedes-Benz started developing cars for more comfort and safety and one of them was the 220 S. When you drive this car, you"ll understand what they meant by comfort. To me, it has more of an old-time American car feel with a bit German style tightness.
Definitely a head turner car. Rides like a dream and runs like a champ. Always garaged.
When I got this car, it was in great shape, but I wanted to get it back as close to original as I could. It was a good thing I knew a certified Mercedes-Benz mechanic so I had the following done. .whether it was needed it or not:
1. New brakes (Disks, pads and calipers) and any rubber brake lines 2. New motor mounts 3. Carbs (both) rebuilt and calibrated 4. New shocks
There are many great things about this car, but I"ll be upfront about what I don"t like. First, there are some wiper marks on the windshield. Not too deep, but I never got around to see if I could get them out. The only other thing is that I regret not changing the ignition switch. When I first bought the car, the previous owner had installed a starter button instead of just replacing the switch itself. You still need the key, but I kept putting off fixing it and now I have to make room in my garage for other projects.
