Vehicle description
1961 Pontiac Tempest Safari Station Wagon.
A True Survivor car, with 33, 915 miles. Believed to be a 2 owner car. Genevieve owned her from 1980 to 2014, 34 yrs. Unmolested Original. Doesn"t look like there has been a wrench on Anything! Under hood is totally stock.
Carburetor, Generator, Voltage regulator, Wiper motor (2sp), Coil, Heater, Blower motor (3sp). Factory wiring looks Excellent. Equipped as follows: 4 cyl, 10.25 compression, 4bbl (Rochester), 155hp, single exhaust, 3 sp on the floor, 3:55 rear gear, Radio works, Heater, Deluxe steering wheel, Stainless trim around windows, standard lift gate- operates with a key only. The key operates Ignition and front doors, plus lift gate. No key for the glove compartment, or light (optional). 5 original 15" steel wheels, with small hub caps, 4 new radials- 195-65x15 black walls. 2 new front shocks, new brakes, pedal is at the top and hard.
All Original date coded glass in excellent condition. Door glass rolls up and down smoothly. Doors open and close easily, NO Slam necessary. Doors fender and hood alignment is factory perfect. Believed to be a no hit car.
Runs and drives Very well. Engine runs very good, I mixed a gallon of racing fuel (110) with 3/4 tank of Shell Premium and I felt a BIG difference! She likes OCTANE! 10.25 compression I suppose. No PS or PB. Really doesn"t need it. Body has Patina, and its just right! Small rust on passenger floor- size of your fist. Small rust on passenger front fender- bottom. Original air cleaner but missing the snorkel. Only approx 23,500 wagons built in 1961. Very low survival rate. Filmed by the Discovery channel crew on April 26, 2018- with Aaron (of Gas Monkey fame) giving a description of a True Survivor car, this 1961 Tempest. Rear seat folds down and is in very good condition. Front seat cushion has been cut out but foam is ok and upholstered. Needs headliner. I"ve driven Her around town and out of town approx 485 miles trouble free. 3 speed transmission operates just fine. Clutch does not slip. She is a very Reliable Driver.
New: Radiator, 2 core, thermostat, temp sending unit- she does not overheat in Texas Heat. New tires- 195-65x15 radial black walls, New brakes, 4bbl carburetor rebuilt in the near past, No problems. Car drives out very good. Drives straight and stops great. Everything works, headlights 2 T3"S, turn signals, dome light, license light, etc. I Drove her to 5 car shows and won a shade tree mechanic trophy. Nice. Most people never saw a 4cyl with a 4bbl engine! Ever! But they Love that 4bbl. .! Many don"t know about the Trans Axle either. So the car is quite a conversation piece and gathers attention wherever she goes.
The car you looked at Today and want to think about till Tomorrow- maybe the same car that someone looked at yesterday and will BUY TODAY!
