Hello and Welcome back to another Route66 Classic Cars Ebay Auction.
Today up for auction we have a Original, Factory Complete 1959 Chevrolet Kingswood Station Wagon . This 4 Door Kingswood Family 9 Passenger Station Wagon is one of the Best Examples left in the country by far. It is very solid and straight and rust free 99%. A Original LA. California preserved car from the start .
THE BIG - BIG QUESTION HERE IS: RESTORE, OR "PATINA RAT ROD" DRIVE IT NOW? EITHER WAY, IT IS A FANTASTIC CANIDATE FOR EITHER !
First the Unique History: The cars History is unique, it started its life in California and spent most all its life on the Military base of Moffatt Field, Naval Air Station untill 1987. Then the car was owned at the last point with a Military Vet (Thank you for your service Mr. Vasquez! ! oohRahh. .) He did a complete unique restoration "in his own way" a labor of love, with thousands of hours no doubt, on this "59 wagon. First He put the Motor of his choice after the 348 was done and upgraded to a 1965 nice 327 V8 Corvette Double Hump Heads Motor. The Motor Runs very strong with Clean Rebuilt Original Big Carb, The Carb is Still needing adjustment according to your elevation for normal driving. Needs dialed in, and the engine timing re-set again. Transmission is the Original PowerGlide F 22 59 GM# 3742349 and shifts good and engages fine no slipping. The rear end is factory original also with tag F 19 59. The Exhaust is new and solid, but color tarnished with storage from age. Power Steering is solid and works great. Steering radius needs to be looked at, as it has a tightened radius that is short, or simple adjustment? This Classic Kingswood was in that area until storage in 1995 CA. Plate as shown. Then went to Mr. A. Vega in 2011 in southern CA. Then the "59 came to Colorado in 2020 after pulling it out of storage. The Climate here in Colorado is incredible for keeping the classics in a rust free condition as it is a high desert area with 10% humidity. The nice rare gas Tank was taken out cleaned and still is out unconnected. Now Running on small under hood tank. Engine runs strong and no smoking has a heavy duty oil cooler installed and gauges oil and water inset in original dash holes. Had a automatic air ride rear shock system installed, now not hooked up but it is still there with the mini compressor under hood.
Brakes are working but need blead and adjusted before the open road, you have to pump them then they work good for short drives & loading. E-Brake works also good. All windows roll up and down nice all door and gate operate great and sound super solid, as he coated the entire car underside and inner doors, and seams, floors top and bottom, with military sealer, as in the Navy used on ships. This is the most solid sound proofed wagon or car you"ll ever ride in. Like a Rolls Royce Protection! He was "paranoid" (is the only way to put it) of rust or rattles. He coated everything that could be coated for protection. I mean everything, under the dash, inside the car roof and sound deadened the roof panels, great for protection and sound before your new headliner! all moldings back sides etc. .Every nook and cranny of the frame, and floors, braces, wheel wells, inside backside of the bumpers, inner fenders, with thin, but very solid and strong coating for sound proofing and protection. No thick crap to hide anything! All by hand, hand painted. He even took the body up and installed all new rubber pads also. The only incorrect neg things done were these: he cut a small hole for the front fender running side lights- for the 327 logo lights. He Also enlarged the spare tire wheel well, for big tires!
There is no rust anywhere that i could find in floors, braces, seams, gate, roof, gullys, wells, ect. . solid as a rock! ! The only damage that was noted was the lower rear passenger door that was changed out with a rust free perfect rear door and resprayed. The lower rear quarter jam area caught a little crease and was also repaired. This is the only "old minor damage" noted and all other metal and components are original to the car 100%. Frame is solid as a rock.
There is no rubber on the doors or lower gate weatherstripping.
But great news, All Window track Fuzzys are new and nice! Windows are quiet and solid when rolled up or down and in closing doors. Rear gate track is fantastic rubbers and side rubbers and front window rubbers! ! all the stuff that is very hard to restore!
All Glass is all original date coded cept the drivers rear door, and it is all beautiful! Even the front windshield is Original. The rear side windows are the best i have ever seen on a wagon, no bubbles at all, thanks to his sealing them. The back gate glass is nice also and goes up and down great with key, or switch inside back, and at the dash!
Interior All the Seats are awesome, all original seats, they had clear on them, like new rear seats always folded down i guess, only lower front seat has now it to protect from splitting, the other covers were removed due to yellowing. POWER FRONT SEAT! 6-WAY POWER SEAT ORIGINAL 59!
All electrical has been up-graded to Military? or He upped the gauges in many areas. It also has a cut off key switch under the dash to turn off all power all light and blinkers etc work great. It has a back up speaker under rear quarter area, now disconnected but works if hooked back up. Dont know why he painted blue instead of the grey other than Navy colors? Maybe he was going to exterior repaint it blue from the original Canyon Corral? The engine compartment is sealed also and the inner fenders and under the main fenders, firewall are all hand painted, the underhood and has new insolation, and also the A-Arms etc. .
The Exterior Paint is original and has has only the original color sprayed on the bare metal areas to keep the body from surface rusting in the patina. a Flattening agent was used to match the color and keep it looking original to the faded old original color.
Overall a Fantastic car to Restore completely, or clear coat rat rod patina driver? Ether way, you will not find a straighter, more solid complete 59 Kingswood wagon anywhere.
