“It left the factory with the following options, E-Z Eye Glass (code E), a heater (code H) and two license plate frames (code M). Dressed in Cobalt Blue (code 26), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order but with minor imperfections on front fenders and rear passenger side door. Up front are a Dagmar-style bumper with gold pasties and grille along with custom headlights. Under that blue counterbalanced hood is a modern GM 5.7L V-8 with port fuel injection that breathes through dual exhausts. This installation is so neat and clean that looks like it could have come from the factory. The motor is connected to an equally modern GM four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive but the speedometer and odometer are inoperable. Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power front bench seat and power windows.” |

1957 Cadillac Series 60 Special Custom Sedan Vehicle Information VIN: 5760084398 Mileage: 435 Color: Blue Trans: Four-speed automatic Engine: 5.7L GM V-8 Title: Clear Interior: Gray Video Description 1957 Cadillac Series 60 Special Custom Sedan
• 4-door hardtop custom resto-mod with modern drivetrain • Final model year for dual headlights; ‘58s had quad lights • Classic Caddy with modern features • Modern 5.7L GM V-8 with port fuel injection and dual exhausts • Modern four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive • Cobalt Blue exterior (code 26) • Blue interior with gray leather inserts and inner door panels • Vintage air-conditioning, Autronic Eye, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power front bench seat and power windows • Custom headlights and Dagmar front bumper with gold pasties and grille
One of head stylist Harley Earl’s last projects before retiring, the 1957 marked the sixth generation of the Series 60 Special. This beautiful blue example has classic styling combined with modern conveniences – a modern V-8 engine and a modern four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, 4 wheel disc brakes and vintage A/C.
This example is one of a handful Series 60 hardtop sedans made in the Clark Street Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. It left the factory with the following options, E-Z Eye Glass (code E), a heater (code H) and two license plate frames (code M). Dressed in Cobalt Blue (code 26), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order but with minor imperfections on front fenders and rear passenger side door. Up front are a Dagmar-style bumper with gold pasties and grille along with custom headlights.
The car’s bodywork is straight, the engine bay is extremely tidy, as does its EverStart battery. The chrome bumpers are in good, original order. One stylistic feature of the car is a wide, ribbed bright metal fairing that extends from the lower half of the rear doors to the rear bumpers. A Fleetwood nameplate is on the trunk lid, along with the car’s reverse lights. The car’s dual exhausts exit through the rear bumper.
This big, finned Caddy rolls on American Classic wide whitewall tires, size P235/75R15. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel topped with new wire wheel covers. The tires and wheels are all in very good order.
Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power front bench seat and power windows. It also has the Autronic Eye, which senses outside light levels and turns the exterior lights on and off, depending on conditions.
Inside, this car’s blue front and rear bench seats with gray inserts and matching inner door panels are all in very good order. The blue carpeting is in satisfactory shape, while the matching headliner looks great. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver and its blue metal instrument panel carries a futuristic theme that was popular at that time but the horn and wipers are inoperable. A column-mounted shift lever looks great alongside a Custom Sound AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary input for an MP3 player or a cell phone that can play your digital music library.
When Cadillac redesigned all of its standard models for 1957, the Sixty Special adopted the pillarless design used the year before on the Sedan de Ville. Sixty Special production reached an impressive 24,000 units - a sales plateau that the nameplate would never achieve again. The chrome fender louvers, a Sixty Special trademark since 1942, were gone in favor of a giant ribbed metallic panel that occupied the entire lower half of the rear fender. The Sixty Special script was located on the lower half of the front fender and was relocated to the top of the rear fin for 1958 and the word “Fleetwood” was spelled out in block lettering across the trunk lid.
Sedan competition to this Sixty Special in 1957 included Chrysler’s New Yorker, Jaguar’s Mark VIII, Lincoln’s Premiere, Nash’s Ambassador Sedan and Packard’s Clipper Town Sedan.
Wait ‘til you see this car in person; it is absolutely stunning. A current trend is to replace the old, tired original engine and replace it with a late-model engine and trans for complete and total reliability. This car starts quickly, takes nearly no time to warm and off you go down the road. It drives like you"re on Cloud 57.
