Vehicle description
1956 Studebaker Power Hawk For Sale. This original California car is being sold by the second owner. 1956 was the only year the Poweer Hawk was made. It has a V-8 and a 3speed floor mounted Hurst shifter. Bought from the original owner in 1973 it was driven only a few months and than stored for the next 29 years. The car was again brought out of storage and passed on to the owners daughter who hired a mechanic to get it running. The car had new exhaust installed at this time and upon test driving the car the mechanic did not have the hood latched down and it came up on him damaging the corners (See Pictures). The car was put back into storage once more for another 16 years until 3 weeks ago. The engine was turned by hand to determined if spun freely. It spun fine, with the oil level checked, fuel added to the carburetor and a jump from a fresh battery it fired up on the 3rd of 4th revolution. Oil pressure showed 50 psi at idle. The fuel system was bypassed and fed directly from a stand alone tank. At this time the car would run only if fuel was added to the carburetor. The fuel pump was replaced from some spare parts that came with the car and it fired right up. The engine ran smooth and idled great for a few minutes and the car was moved under its on power for a short distance until the carburetor developed a leak and the car was shut off at that time. As stated the car has been in storage for 45 years total. It does need some work but is in solid condition. I am selling the car for my friend due to her moving out of state. I have the a clear signed California title in hand that was re-registered a few weeks ago. The condition of the carburetor prevents the car from being ran but the car can be started and ran for a few moments if needed. I will answer all questions as best as possible and can contact the owners son if needed. Please feel free to ask. I can send more pictures. The dash is in good shape along with the front and rear and side windows. The engine and engine bay are complete and in good shape. New exhaust installed 16 years ago. tires are in good shape considering age. car over all is in pretty good shape for being in storage for so long. The bad: Interior- I have the original front seats. All seats, headliner and carpet need some love. Windows- The drivers window is busted in 3 or 4 pieces and sitting in the door. Exterior- Hood was damaged from flying up when being "test driven". It will not stay up on its own. some small surface rust on hood. Exterior rubber- Some good and some suspect. Engine- Needs carburetor rebuilt. Body- Original owner cut out for more air flow behind the front scoops in engine bay. See pictures. Undercarriage- Some small amount of surface rust. Please see pictures for more details. Brakes- Leaking wheel cylinders. Again, please feel free to ask any questions before bidding. Paypal deposit of $250.00 dollars non refundable due upon close of auction. Remainder due within 10 days. Checks must clear for 10 days. No exceptions. Cash is King! 559/960/6571. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I can assist in any way possible. Please ask. I can hold the car for 30 days if needed. The car is sold as is. Thank you.
