Vehicle description
This 1954 MG TF was sold new in Canada to a Mr. P.R. Preston of Montreal and stayed with the original owner until the mid 1970s. The second owner, a Mr. Goulet, bought the car in the mid-1970s and disassembled it with the intention of performing a restoration that was never completed. It was subsequently purchased in 1993 by an owner in Hudson, Quebec who completed the restoration. The 1250cc XPAG inline-four was rebuilt and the suspension was refurbished. The car was then imported to the United States in 1995 by the previous owner who owned her till 2018 and used the MG sparingly.
The wood was treated in a preservative, and silcone-based seam sealers were used on the metal bodywork. The car was originally delivered with disc wheels, and the previous owner converted the car to wire wheels with knock-off hubs. The exterior was refinished using red Glasurit paint, and the frame was painted black using Imron urethane. Inner panels were finished with Tectyl undercoating. Stock lighting and an optional wing mirror are fitted. A tan top and matching side curtains were installed in 1995, and have reportedly been used just once to check for fitment. The seats are upholstered in tan leather, and the dash and other interior panels are trimmed in matching tan vinyl. A full carpet set is fitted, and the compartment aft of the seats for the side curtains is lined in black felt. The large-diameter steering wheel has a leather-wrapped rim. 62k miles are shown. The 1250cc XPAG inline-four is original, and is paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt in the mid-1990s, and the cylinders were overbored .040″ at that time. During the rebuild the crank was honed .010″ undersize, new caps and bearings fitted, the valves were lapped, valvetrain overhauled and a new timing chain was installed. The underhood tool kit is lined with the original white felt. The previous owner also dismantled the transmission and rear end, and replaced most of the rear end bearings. Both the brake master and slave cylinders were replaced in the 1990s. The front and rear brakes were overhauled in 2006, including new wheel cylinders and brake shoes. The following items are included with the car:
Two keys
1954 MG TF sales brochure
Original jack
Original hand crank
Original workshop and user manuals for the MG TF
1967 MG promotional materials
