Vehicle description
1949 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible Looking For It’s Next Caretaker to Finish a Restoration That Was Started In the 1970s. This Rare First Generation Rocket V8 Was Originally Bought In Oakmont, Pennsylvania on December 14th, 1948.
Yes! That’s Right, This 70 Year Old Classic Has Retained the Original Oldsmobile Dealer Sales Contract, Dealer Paperwork, Insurance Cards, Receipts For Parts Bought, Service/ Maintenance Performed, Etc. Over a 2 Inch Binder of Paperwork Documenting It to a 3 Owner Rare Classic Post War Convertible.
The Original Owner Bought It In Oakmont, Pennsylvania and Shipped It to Hawaii Where He Was Working Post WW2. In the 1970’s His Wife and Him Moved to Lancaster, California (High Desert). In the Late 1970’s, He Passed Away, and His Widow Sold the 98 Convertible to the Second Owner, Which Was a Friend, and Neighbor Living Down the Same Street. The Second Owner Pulled Out the Original 303 Rocket V8, Rebuilt It, and Started to Disassemble This Classic Which Lead to Staying in His Garage For Almost 40 Years. Recently, I Acquired the 98 Convertible. Numerous Hours and Research Lead to Getting the 303 Rocket Engine Running Well, Performing a 4 Wheel Drum Brake Job, and Collecting Some Extra Parts For This Rare 98 Convertible. Currently, It Runs and Drives, But the Brakes are Spongy. It Probably Needs a New Master Cylinder.
The Body Looks to Be Cared For Exceptionally Well, and Stored Properly During It’s 70 Year Existence. Working on and Inspecting the Convertible’s Body, I Don’t Believe It’s Ever Been In a Major Accident, or Was Ever Rusty. I Don’t Recall Any Panels Being Welded In Due to Any Repairs. The Dash, Front/Back Seat, and Power Convertible Top Are All Present and Awaiting Restoration. Some of the Power Windows Original Glass Is Cracked and Needs to Be Replaced. The 2 Glass Windshield Glass Panes are New, and Installed. The Original Door Panels Were Retained For the Power Switches, Chrome Trim and Use For New Door Panel Templates.
I Believe While Sorting Out the 98 Convertible, 95% of the Chrome and Stainless Steel Trim Is Present. I Can Verify the Surrounding Trim Trunk Handle and the Trunk Handle Is Not Present. Also the The Passenger Wing Window Is 75% and Is Missing a Length of Chrome Surrounding Trim.
The 98 Convertible Has 5 Brand New BF Goodrich White Wall Tires, 5 Powder Coated Steel Wheels, and Misc. New/Used Spare Parts.
This Solid, Dry, Documented Since New 1949 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible Deserves to Be Restored and Preserved. If You Want to Verify Condition, Paperwork, Etc. Please Contact Me So We Can Set a Time Where You Can Inspect This Rare Convertible In Person. Assisting with Shipping or Dropping Off to Local Transport Hubs In the Los Angeles Area Is Not a Problem Either.
I am Always Open to Fair Offers.
