This 1949 MG TC features a custom aluminum body built in thestyle of an MG Q-type racing car. The seller acquired the car approximately sixyears ago and commissioned the body to be handmade as part of a refurbishmentthat also involved the XPAG inline-four being rebuilt and fitted with an MG“Safety Fast”–style supercharger, installation of a Ford T9 five-speed manualtransmission, MG K3–style racing seats, a machine-turned dashboard, and dualwindscreens. This modified MG TC speedster is now offered with a clean Texastitle in the seller’s name. The seller reportedly commissioned a craftsman inthe United Kingdom to fabricate this car’s aluminum body based on photos of a1930s MG Q-type racing car approximately six years ago. The body was finishedin maroon, and exterior features include a boat-tail rear and lowered sills inlieu of doors, as well as K3-type Lucas headlights and a front fog light withmesh rock guards, a side-mounted spare wheel, EXU rear turn signals, and dualquick-release fuel-filler caps. 16″ wire wheels with three-eared knock-off hubsare wrapped in 5.5″-wide Blockley bias-ply tires. Drum brakes are fitted at allfour corners, and the car is reportedly equipped with an aftermarket steeringbox and Andrex shock absorbers. The interior features MG K3–style racing seatswith maroon upholstery, which extends throughout the cabin. Fold-downwindscreens are provided for both the passenger and driver. A banjo-stylesteering wheel fronts a machine-turned dashboard with Smiths instrumentsreportedly were rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments of Mamaroneck, New York. Gaugesinclude a 105-mph speedometer, a 6,500-rpm tachometer, and a Judsonsupercharger gauge. The five-digit odometer displays 7 miles; true mileage isunknown. The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four is equipped with an Eaton-stylesupercharger and features a period MG Arnolt aluminum valve cover. According tothe seller, the engine was run on a test stand prior to installation and thenthe car was test driven for approximately 50 miles before the instruments wereinstalled. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Ford T9 five-speed manualgearbox that was reportedly adapted for the T-series application. The sellernotes that the fluids were checked in June 2020.
