Vehicle description
In its day, the Diamond Ts were prestigious and became known as the Cadillac of trucks. This 1938 Diamond T 306 S exemplifies the workmanship and quality that brought about that comparison. This rare example is Chassis Number 3060013. The Original tag shows Chassis 3060013 Chassis Model 306 S Max Speed 53 Chass. Wt. 3980 Diamond T Motor Car Co. Chicago, IL. We were told by some marque experts that this may possibly be the earliest surviving example of Diamond T 306 S. It was recently treated to a nut and bolt restoration befitting the quality that was originally built into it at the factory. It looks good in the photos and even better in person.
The 6 cylinder Hercules motor was rebuilt by a specialist machine shop in Massachusetts. No expense spared at over ten thousand dollars. Every function was tested, the result is smooth idle, sounds great and pulls strong thus maintaining the original character of this truck. When running, it is hard to believe this is a motor that is almost 80 years old. It is mated to Warner 4 Speed Transmission. All the mechanical components were restored or replaced as necessary and overall function as they should. A new period wiring harness was custom made using the original. Currently showing over 172 miles since the engine rebuild and completion of the restoration.
The body and interior were also brought back to very high standards. The seat is covered in tan leather. The truck bed may be the focal point of this Diamond T. A custom metal frame was built and oak was scribed to fit into it. This is an amazing work truck to drive and enjoy. The wiper has not been fitted as it needs to be refinished, but it is included. All the gauges were rebuilt and restored, but currently the fuel gauge is not functioning. It may be a wiring or loose connection issue. The front bumper is ready to install, but we prefer the look without it, it is included with the trunk along with 2 oil filter elements. Other than these minor issues, the truck starts, runs and drives excellent.
As is visible in the photos, this truck is stunning! It would also be a great branding tool for a vineyard or farm which would be bringing it back to its original purpose. That incredible oak bed, would make it a portable Farm to Table or Wine Tasting venue. The possibilities are endless.
The Diamond T is garaged in Northwest Connecticut and can be inspected and driven. If you are interested, send a message to arrange a test drive. It is registered in Connecticut and will be sold with a Bill of Sale as this state does not issue titles for vehicles over 20 years old. The buyer can drive this truck away, and buyer is responsible for pick up from its current location.
Thank you for looking.
