Turbocharged 2008 Toyota Yaris "S" - This is an interesting, unique, "sleeper" that has taken over four years to build at a cost of over $25k in parts and labor. Some of the parts had to be sourced overseas from Japan and Australia. The 1.5L 1NZ-FE engine presently makes 200+ hp to the wheels @ 10.5psi of boost on a conservative dyno tune. For such a light chassis (This Yaris Sedan is less than 2,300 lbs) it is plenty fast and a hoot to drive. The OS Giken "superlock" LSD differential really helps with traction. (It does not just spin the inside front wheel the way other high powered front wheel drive vehicles will). The chassis has only 61k miles on it. (It is my daily driver so mileage will go up, but not by much) The engine has about 10k on it since it was built and turbocharged. I am only the second owner. I have every service record since it was originally purchased including many receipts, pictures and documentation of the modifications. The Haltech standalone is patched into the OEM engine harness with an adapter harness which allows it to run the engine. This allows the OEM ECU to work in tandem with the Haltech to control every function on the vehicle except running the engine. Thus all the original gauges function normally, air conditioning functions normally, even the ABS system and airbags are completely intact and operational. This is still a Toyota with all the everyday utility you would expect, only with much more horsepower, handling and performance. Best of all, it sounds AMAZING. You can put the Varex muffler in RACE mode and turn heads or go into sleeper mode and cruise around the neighborhood without offending your neighbors. The front bumper cover attachment clips are broken. I have reinforced it where I can with zip ties, it holds on the way it is but that"s what creates the gap between the hood and the front bumper cover. The front bumper cover should be replaced. The passenger side headlight seal allows for some condensation within the lens. It does not affect headlight function, but the headlight should be replaced to fix this. The paint on the rear wing and the tops of the side mirrors are getting somewhat faded/oxidized. Those parts should be repainted to look good as new again. The paint finish overall is not perfect there are a few scratches, chips and scuffs in the paint. The worst area is one spot on the roof about two inches in diameter and one spot of paint bubbles on the passenger front door. - The Innovate coolant temp gauge does not function perfectly. The location where the sensor is mounted creates a false reading of actual coolant temps. Relocating the sensor will fix this. The OEM coolant temp sensor that feeds coolant temperature to the Haltech reads accurately and the coolant temps are exactly where they should be with the OEM thermostat. I have verified this with an infrared temp gun and also by accessing the Haltech with a laptop to observe the temps as live data from the sensors. - The blinkers do not automatically reset because of the aftermarket steering wheel hub. The control function as normal but you have to manually turn the blinker off after you turn it on. If you want the original steering wheel and hub to return to original function of the blinkers, that will come with the car if you want it. The same goes with the original drivers seat. - I have driven this car for long distances (most recently I drove 9 hours to visit Road Atlanta raceway in Georgia) and it has never left me stranded or broken down. I compete in auto-x competition with this car. It is faster than a Mini Cooper "S" or a Fiesta ST and there is much more potential left to unlock from this build. - All the fluids are Redline Synthetic. The battery, alternator and serpentine belt are brand new. The front control arms are brand new (with added polyurethane bushings). - I installed hood risers under the hood hinges to create a gap to vent out heat from the turbo from the engine bay. - More power is easy to be had from this motor. Forged internals within the block can easily handle it. Boost control is easily adjustable through the Haltech. This turbo will flow @ 15psi no problem. You can raise peak boost as well as varying boost levels at different areas of the RPM range with the Haltech. You can also adjust the variable valve timing, the rev redline, or any other engine parameter you want. The fuel system will also handle E85 if you wire in a flex-fuel sensor.
