Vehicle description
o.k. so here"s big orange. this is a full 15 passenger sportsman.1 ton. ALL steel. ALL windows. ALL seats ! interior is beautiful for it"s age. no rips or tares, great olle ceiling is in great shape, engine runs great. original, newly rebuilt carter thermoquad four barrel carburetor. floor button high beams ! don"t forget to turn the headlight off, no idiot dinger in this one.i have this childhood memory of being afraid to get in car at night, NO interior lights come on when you open the door ! it"s the real deal.on those dark nights, just brace yourself, open the door and get in. or if your chicken, you could turn the interior light on via the knob, conveniently placed right inside the drivers door. PLAID SEATS! and matching WAINSCOT.
now i bought this van in iowa from a ww2 veteran. it was first purchased by the iowa DOT in 1980. custom painted "omaha orange". they used it to get workers out to the highway. still had trident wrappers in the ashtray, from back when there was only one flavor ! remember that stuff ? so he bought it at the state auction. he bought it in 1996 for a back up vehicle for his "cattle handling equipment" business. HE NEVER USED IT ! his mechanics kept it up and when not in use, it was stored inside. if there was any body work done on it, it was before his time and i don"t know about it. with routine maintenance, it seems he put apx. 3000 miles on it between 1996 and 2019. my 13 year year old son and i caught a ride with a total stranger halfway across the country to meet a man we hoped was for real, hoping to buy a van we hoped existed. . landed in collins, iowa in the middle of the night. pitched a tent in the middle of a record heat wave, hoping to meet the owner of the van in the morning. . anyway, we had a great time, and it all worked out. now then. . mind you, this is a carbureted engine. if you want a smart car, this isn"t the vehicle for you. requires driver"s smarts. pumping the gas pedal for no good reason floods the engine, etc. and cruise control. works great, if you don"t mind pushing the pedal occasionally to readjust your speed. don"t expect to keep a perfect 65 going uphill ! we replaced the gas tank (22 gallons)when we got home from iowa, also replaced the steering box with a nice brandy new one. and have a still in the box fuel pump sitting under the seat, although, there is nothing wrong with the on in it. now be ware, it aint to great on gas. .and EFI would help, so would a good tune up. holey tells me a sniper with the distibutor kit would give it a big boost. . 2 windshield wiper speeds !
heat is HOT, A.C. is not ! (taint to cold either). . needs a recharge, r-22. ( comes with a special gift under the seat. )
here"s the bad. . needs new window gasket around the push out windows. . as i said, a.c. is needing attention. . it had NO visible rust when i bought it. . after 2 years in buffalo, every paint chip is rusting. . it has a line of pimply rust breaking out horizontally across one of the side doors. .ask for a picture.
it also has a small rust hole behind the rear bumper( i did not notice this when i bought it) my reason for selling it is, i don"t have the means to take care of it the way it needs. especially WINTERS. would make a great rv. camper or tiny home. small enough to parallel park, big enough to live in. ANYWAY, you"ll know what to do with it.
oh yes, it also has a tow package. cant tell you much about it but, it"s the original tow hitch package with trailer brake set up.
