Vehicle description
"Barn Find" SIATA 600 Formichetta
Stupendously rare, and cute as a button - this is the ONLY known example within the US!
The “Thinking Man’s” alternative to the Fiat Jolly. Potential to garner more attention at shows than your buddy’s Ferrari! If you"d like to find something unique - this is it. You"re unlikely to ever see another one in your lifetime.
The Siata Formichetta is a small van based on the SEAT 600 (Spanish Fiat 600) that had the chassis stretched and the coachbuilt rear van body section installed. These were hand built in limited quantities by the specialty coachbuilder SIATA Española SA (a subsidiary of the famous Italian car company) in its factory located in Tarragona. These feature 4 “suicide” doors, plus an opening rear hatch and engine cover.
These are rare even in their native Spain and have become a cult car there. Many in much worse condition than this example are being rescued and fully restored. There is even a club these that put on shows and rallys. I asked a contact in the SIATA Formichetta FB group in Spain do some research and here was his reply: "I have identified it: It was first registered in Madrid, in the name of a North American stationed at the American Naval Base of Rota, in Cadiz. I guess with the years, and retirement, the serviceman returned to the USA and with him, the Formichetta!”
This example was found in rural New Hampshire and I felt compelled to save it due to its extreme rarity. I had originally intended to transport it to California where I live, but my plans have changed (too much on my plate already). I have a friend that reluctantly agreed to temporarily store it for me at his place in Wolfeboro NH, but he needs the space and the car needs to find a new home quickly.
Since these were based on the Fiat 600, many restoration parts can be sourced cheaply and easily. Once restored, it would be a great mascot in a collection featuring SIATA or other European cars.
It has very interesting patina if someone wanted to display it as-is - a sure fire winner at the next “Concours d’ Lemons! This would make an incredible rolling cappuccino bar like the GAGGIA version (photo attached below). It would also make the ultimate shop truck, food truck, or advertising vehicle with your logo’s painted on the sides. I have added several photos of other Formichettas for inspiration.
Obviously this car is in need of a full restoration, and is not running/driving. It has been been sitting many years. I never flew to NH to inspect the car, so it is impossible for me to describe in detail.
Sold on a Bill of Sale (not salvage title - ebay does not have missing title as a choice). Located in Wolfeboro NH. Must be towed or transport arranged. Sold in "As-Is where is" condition for restoration. Mileage unknown.
Serious buyers only. Please contact me before bidding if your feedback is less than 10.
NO RESERVE!
