Vehicle description
Hello, I am selling my very rare 2005 XK8 Coupe. It is one of only 667 (X100) Coupes built in the final 2005 production year (see picture # 24 for production # details). From what I gather, production for the X100 ended in mid 2005. So if you see any 2006 XK8’s advertised, they are all 2005 models, somehow marketed as 2006’s. Jaguar in this way apparently was trying to liquidate the last batch of the X100 XK8’s, while the next generation XK’s were already in showrooms. The car has a desirable black on black color combination, which took me quite some time to find when I was looking to buy in 2011. It is fully loaded including Automatic Speed Control, GPS Navigation, factory Alpine sound system and much much more (see picture # 21 for option details). The final 2 year X100 XK8 Coupe Jaguars are among the rarest and visually and mechanically the most advanced and refined X100 XK8 Coupes. The previous XK8 4.0 Liter known mechanical issues were eliminated under Ford management by 2004, making this final production 4.2 Liter X100 XK8 not only a very capable, but also very reliable sports cruiser. Besides the new and much more reliable 4.2 Liter engine, you may have noticed that the last 2 year X100 XK8"s look different, or better than the earlier 4.0 Liter X100 production line Coupes. That"s because the body side moldings were removed, larger wheels were installed, the front grill, spoiler/bumper,fog lights, wheels and a multitude of other subtle details have been updated/refined, giving it a much better stance and sportier and more sophisticated appearance. On the interior, you will now also find a small Navigation and general control center and settings display, which the earlier cars did not have. Many people see in the last two year production X100 XK8 Coupe a striking resemblance to the first generation Aston Martin DB9. This is no coincidence,as both cars were design managed by Ian Callum. The XK8 also shares its driving platform with the Aston Martin DB7 giving the XK8 a very unique provenance. For the above mentioned reasons, the last two year X100 XK8"s are therefore the most desirable and sought after X100 XK8’s, which is notably apparent in them holding their value better than the early X100 production line. Well kept 2005 XK8 Coupes can easily fetch double or more than the earlier X100 Coupes. In my eyes the final edition X100 XK8 Coupes are one of the most beautiful and elegant sport coupe designs out there. With its design clue heritage from the iconic 1960"s Jaguar E-Type mixed with modern lines, this X100 Coupe is truly timeless no matter from what angle you look at it. I personally like this XK8’s overall look and lines actually better than the Aston Martin DB7 or Db9’s. As you may already know, there is also a 2005 XKR, which is also a very special and capable car. The XKR is super charged and sports about 90 more HP than the XK8 and a multitude of spoilers and hood scoops/lovers, racier wheels and a hydraulically controlled suspension. This is just my personal preference and opinion, but I feel that the base XK8 Coupe is a more elegant, beautiful, reliable and easier to own and maintain car than the XKR. In my eyes, the Jaguar brand has more of an elegant and subtle sports cruiser image, rather than a Hot Rod image. I feel the XKR is visually and mechanically a bit over built at 390 HP and the spoilers and hood scoops distract from its otherwise beautiful lines. If reliability, serviceability and budgeting are of concern,a XKR’s cramped supercharged engine compartment definitely makes access to normal maintenance more difficult and a supercharged engine obviously puts more stress on the drive train lessening longevity. In terms of cost of repair and parts, the XKR’s break job and hydraulic suspension and many other high performance related costs, can be overwhelming to most owners. From my experience of when I was looking at XK8’s and XKR’sfor comparison, many XKR’s had been owned and driven by "heavy footed enthusiasts", or also by younger people that may not have the money to properly maintain the high performance and costly to maintain XKR. That is why I chose the XK8 and think that it is a more well rounded, not only design wise and aesthetically, but also reliability, maintenance and parts cost wise. At 300 HP and with its regular coil-over suspension, performance and ride quality wise, the XK8 is still a very capable contender being only about a second slower than the XKR in a Zero to 60 sprint (if that matters to you). Taking all these details and qualities in consideration, there are simply very few, if any, comparable cars outside the Jaguar brand that can compete in this price category. I truly think that price, design, performance and quality wise, you will be hard pressed to find a better balanced and satisfying car than this X100 XK8 Coupe. What"s even better is that due to all these unique qualities and its low final year production numbers, this particular X100 XK8 Coupe is sure to appreciate in value in the near future as it is soon approaching classic car status in age. Many online collector and value guides already are calling out the final and limited production years XK8 Coupes as highly regarded and sought after future collectibles that for now can still be had for an astonishingly low upfront investment. In the below $20K range, there are simply not many cars out on the market that have so much to offer. In terms of condition: Other than the usual stone chips on the front end and a few minor scratches, the original paint still shows beautifully and is a true pleasure to look at. The interior is beautiful as well and nearly perfect for its age. The dash surface and headliner are perfect and the leather is still soft to the touch without any tears. The wood dash panel has still its beautiful deep color and shine without any sun fading or discoloring. The only minor flaw I could find is in the small wood bezel around/on the shift/drive selector. It has 2 tiny hairline cracks, which is very common on that particular piece. The piece is less than $200 new and can easily be replaced in minutes as it is only held in place by 4 easily accessed Allen bolts. The car also drives beautifully and they way a well taken care of car should. There are no fault codes and all systems including the A/C and cruise control work properly. There is no body rust or under body damage that I can see and the engine and transmission are drip free. Books & Records, 2 Keys/Remotes and a clean, accident free AutoCheck/Carfax report are included. I have more pictures for serious buyers that I can forward up on request. The car was sold new in southern California and spent most of its life between southern and northern California. I have a clean and lien free California title in my name. In terms of price: If you have made it this far reading, I assume you are genuinely interested or at least intrigued. Please do not compare this XK8 with the earlier 4.0 Liter versions price wise. Although they appear similar, for all the above mentioned reasons, it just is not a fair or realistic comparison. Because there are so few last production year X100 XK8 Coupes, using value guides as Blue Book is not accurate or realistic either, as they do not consider rarity or low production numbers. I have seen these cars go for as high as $25.000. Nevertheless I have tried to price my XK8 as fair and realistic as possible. I am a mature adult owner who has owned this beautiful car since 2011. I believe I am the 3rd owner, although AutoCheck and Carfax may say 4 owners total. Reason being is that When we bought the car in 2011, it was in both of my wife"s and my name. We updated the title/address in 2012, when we moved from San Francisco to Sonoma CA leaving it titled only in my name. I have put only around 10.000 miles on it since. Since the birth of our daughter in 2016, we have used the car even less, only taking it out on weekend outings/trips. I am a car enthusiast and bought this car, because my wife and I fell in love with its gorgeous lines. We unfortunately just don"t have enough time to enjoy it and am also slowly but surely running out of space among all my other cars and toys. I have been contemplating on keeping it to give to my daughter for her 16th birthday, but that"s still 12 years away :-) If I can find the right home and buyer who can appreciate and enjoy this beautiful car, I will part from it. Otherwise I will explore the “Plan B” option, which I am sure my daughter will be very appreciative of. I am definitely old school, and therefore would usually prefer to deal with someone local and in person on a hand shake, as I am convinced that if you see and drive this car, you will buy it at the price that I think will be fair to us both. If needed, I will work with long distance inquiries to the best of my abilities. The vehicle is located and available for inspection 5 minutes outside of Downtown Sonoma, California 95476 (Wine Country :-) Please ask all questions and arrange to inspect the vehicle before the auction ends. The vehicle is sold “as is”. Immediate $500 deposit via wire or PayPal, balance due in 7 days in form of cash, cashier"s check or wire transfer. I reserve the right to end the auction early in order to sell the car to potential local buyers. Thank you for your time and consideration!
