Vehicle description
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird Coupe was refurbished and modified by Status Customs of Sacramento, California, with work including refinishing the exterior in BMW-specification Yas Marina Blue, retrimming the interior with black leather upholstery, and installation of a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 paired with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional modifications include tubbed rear wheel wells, staggered-diameter wheels, QA1 and Ridetech suspension components, four-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood calipers, a dual exhaust system with Hedman tubular headers and SpinTech mufflers, Dakota Digital instrumentation, Vintage Air climate control, and a Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system, and more as described below.
The body was refinished in its current BMW-specification Yas Marina Blue. Features include an Anvil Auto dual-scoop carbon-fiber hood, rear deck, and spoiler. The window trim, side mirrors, and bumpers were refinished in black, and further additions include quad HID headlights, a front lip spoiler, and wheel well liners finished in gloss black.
BC Forged wheels with a bronze finish measure 18″ in diameter up front and 19″ out back, and they are fitted with Nitto tires measuring 235/40 and 345/30, respectively. Wilwood calipers are fitted at all four corners, and the vehicle is also equipped with a CPP brake proportioning valve and hydraulic assist system. There is occasional rubbing of the rear passenger-side tire with the suspension.
The interior features front seats sourced from a Honda Prelude that were retrimmed in black leather upholstery, and matching upholstery covers the rear bench, dashboard, center console, and side panels. Replacement black carpeting is installed over an application of sound insulation material, and additional features include a Billet Specialties steering wheel mounted to an adjustable column, a Pioneer touchscreen stereo linked to DC audio components, a climate control system sourced from Vintage Air, and seatbelts for the front occupants. The air-conditioning system does not blow cold air and the right-side interior door pull are inoperative. A spare pair of BMW-specification seats are included in the sale.
Replacement Dakota Digital gauges are recessed within the stock openings and feature a digital odometer.
The supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 was sourced from a 2013 Camaro ZL1 and features a Brian Tooley Racing Stage 2 camshaft, a Spectre cold-air intake, aluminum rocker covers, and ceramic-coated Hedman tubular headers linked to dual exhaust system equipped with SpinTech mufflers. The cooling system includes an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, and other additions include a stainless-steel coolant overflow reservoir, a PSI wiring harness, a high-torque starter, and custom-fabricated motor mounts.
Power is routed via a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a 9″ rear end fitted with a Positraction limited-slip differential and 3.70:1 gears. Further updates include QA1 coilovers and Ridetech-sourced tubular control arms and adjustable rear trailing arms.
