Vehicle description
So yeah not sure where to begin here, i bought this 1972 trade wind about 10 years ago it was stored indoors every winter, the trailer is solid has no known mechanical issues or major problems of anykind other than a broken curbside front window. I"ll get to that haha here"s everything I know.
Exterior: The shell is water tight I had the seams & windows professionally gone thru, they removed the old caulking material and had new OEM parcor caulking applied where needed and all window gaskets were also replaced. The stabilizer jacks work as they should, drop step works perfectly, New aluminum propane tank rubber propane lines were replaced, all doors function perfectly, the entrance door handle and lock functions as it should I had a dead bolt lock installed for extra security, The Clearcoat was removed with nontoxic citri strip and polishing was started with a buffing wheel I managed to finish the 2nd stage of polishing on the bottom of the trailer but had to stop recently due to other projects of more importance. The trailer comes with all tools necessary to finish polishing including cyclo dual head orbital polisher, dewalt variable speed angle polisher, multi stage buffing wheels jewlers rouge polish sealant etc. . $600 in tools alone. A mirror polish finish will add $erious$ value to this Airstream!
Mechanical: I had the suspension inspected by trailer service center here locally the wheel bearings were repacked, hubs were replaced all new brakes with all OEM parts. 5 new American made Goodyear endurace trailer tires with brand new full size spare tire, Jack also included this work was completed a last summer estimated near 2,000 miles ago at the cost of approx $2,500
Plumbing: Water tanks were checked for leaks new copper and pex plumbing throughout entire trailer. The black water tank and toilet are new and have never been used only tested for leaks etc. The water heater is was replaced by the previous owner it is propane but also has an hybrid heater element installed so you can run off campsite electricity.
Electrical: fuse panel replaced and relocated, led lighting throughout 2) 75watt solar panels 2) lifeline agm batteries 2000 watt pure sine wave digital inverter Solar controller digital battery monitor.
Air conditioning was tricky for this trailer as it did not come with a rooftop ac unit I personally didn"t want one because they are problematic and prone to having leaks and the old ac units are very heavy and inefficient So here in upper michigan we just open the windows and usually have no need for air conditioning, however I did spend time in south Carolina last summer where it tends to be a bit warmer haha so I fabricated boxed aluminum brackets that fit in the rear galley window to accept a small window mounted ac unit will keep this thing frosty even on the hottest days and honestly looks good too when I installed the unit I had many compliments by fellow airstreamers I met at the campsite. I had aluminum sheetmetal custom bent to fit the contour of the trailer it seals water tight and is VERY solid. I will make instructions on to how to install and remove everything.
The interior has been mostly left alone I wanted to keep the interior as original as possible, being that that the previous owners took very good care and the condition was overall very good. Here is a brief list of updates: New Countertops New Kitchen faucet New Propane cooktop Stainless steel backsplash Energy efficient glass door refrigerator Vinyl tile floor Pioneer radio 22" Samsung led tv with dvd/blu ray player
Problems. as with any trailer this old there will be issues. I want to be completely upfront so you will not be disappointed. The shell has a few scratches and little blemishes here and there like any vintage airstream but with polishing these aren"t as noticable I was told most of the small stuff can be sanded and buffed out, one spot by the wheel well has a slight dent that the previous owner had repaired, it looks good and doesn"t draw much attention I"d rate the shell condition around 8 out of 10. The furnace works but needs a new igniter. I didnt bother replacing it because the furnace uses a lot of propane, in the fall months the front entry wall mounted propane heater kept us toasty and doesn"t use much fuel. I"ll also include an energy efficient portable space heater which I found to be the most economical route when shore power is available. The only issue i would have any concern with is the front curbside window. A rock was thrown from my truck tire and shattered the window (which is why the rock guard is now installed) anyway I called a few airstream parts places and that window is on backorder they told me it could be a few weeks to a month. the window is approx $300 and the install is another $150 good news is the front curbside windows are a double glass window so the outer glass is broken but the inner glass is still in place with the rock guard it"s not noctible at all and still very much water tight, just looks. Not so great with the rock guard up. Oh and the windows are tinted with a non adhesive window tint film so you could easily peel it off if you dont like how dark it is. Personally I dont like how a few spots turned out but I"m a perfectionist, and most people tell me it looks fine, the tint definitely helps with the privacy aspect and keeps the summer temps down too. Well that"s it for problems. Overall this is a well maintained Airstream ready to tow anywhere, anytime I pulled it through the hills of west Virginia back home via the smoky mountains all over the midwest, northern wisconsin and upper Michigan zero problems the thing tows like a dream. And needs nothing other than a window and some polishing. So if you would like more pictures, information or look at it over in person feel free to ask any questions call or text Justin @ thanks for looking have a good one!
