Vehicle description
You are looking at a very fun and somewhat rare vintage 1961 Yellowstone TR model Travel Trailer Camper. Condition is Used.
I actually bought this from a friend of a friend down in the Twin Cities here in Minnesota who has had it the last 10 years and basically kept it in his yard as a place for friends to crash for summer get together"s. Long story short I was looking at a couple vintage campers at that time last Spring and I drove to Oregon to buy a 56 Mercury but I didn"t know if I would be happy with it so I bought this 61 Yellowstone just in case as a plan B. I didn"t want the Yellowstone to get away if The Merc was a bust.
So the Mercury camper turned out to be nicer than the 61 Yellowstone but had been refurbished. I figured I could do some some work on the Yellowstone since I had paid for it anyways. I can promise you the Yellowstone seen was in much rougher shape than it is now. A lot of seat and labor was put into getting her back to decent shape. I also know I won"t make any money on this camper. I just knew I had to get it in better shape. The seams were not water tights and the roof needed serious work too as the sealant was old, cracking and not up too par. I have spent the last two months sanding, scraping and removing old caulk and sealant from the windows, roof and seams. I was able to apply some good resin on all those parts and bolts. I am confident this camper is as water tight as it can be unless a full restoration was done.
I had to drive this 200 miles as well. The previous owner replaced the bearings and wheels with new ones. It handles well with zero highway issues. You could tow this camper all the way across the country. Sadly the original lights on the exterior no longer work. Some kind of wiring issue that can be fixed of course but the two rear lights on the lower rear bumper work fine. It has the standard 4 pin connection as well.
I applied new paint in a two tone blue scheme. I call this trailer The Blue Hornet. Very retro and will turn heads for sure. The frame is solid but you can see there are several dents and dings in the aluminum siding. Very common for an older trailer of this age. There is no heater, stove or bathroom in this 15 foot entry level Yellowstone TR model but that"s kind of the charm of it. It"s an open book and it"s limits are only as limited as your imagination. I was going to install a heater and deep cycle battery for off grid but I"ll let the next owner decide what to do? This is one extremely roomy camper. It comes with a small twin size bed but the table disassembles and turns into anther bed if needed.
All the windows work great and the screens have been replaced. There is just one window lever that was Jerry rigged with a panel but that can be fixed with the right parts. Door has a lock but there is no key. Easy fix again. The trailer has 3 working lights that need electric hook up to work. A deep cycle battery would fix that too. The fridge works when plugged in on electric. There is plenty of storage in this camper too. This trailer is so much nicer than when I first got it. Again, i won"t make any money on this. it was more a learning experience and wanting this old girl to get another 15 to 20 years of life if possible. It"s a glorified tent on wheels but it has great potential. Lite interior wood damage from previous unaddressed open seals and seams. but nothing that can"t be fixed or addressed.
If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask? Please mo low balling. I"m open to offers but I will certainly lose money on this if not break even so please be respectful. She need s a good home. I"d keep it if I didn"t have my 56 Merc. It"s a good platform.
Thank you.
