Vehicle description

This auction is for a Ford Winston Cup Race Car raced by Mark Martin in the 1998-1999 seasons. A friend of mine (Dub) passed away recently and I am listing this car for sale for his family. This Winston Cup race car was built and prepared by Jack Roush and is Chassis JR-64. Mark Martin drove this car in 10 events. The race car was a short track car that competed at North Carolina Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Dover Downs International Speedway, Richmond International Speedway and Martinsville Speedway. The Jack Roush/Valvoline Taurus was normally a white car. However, the car has a one of a kind paint scheme and is identified as “Synpower with a gold and multi-color metallic finish and was used as a final race special paint scheme before retirement and never to be used again. The car was raced during NASCAR’s 50 th Anniversary Season. Valvoline as the primary sponsor requested that Jack Roush prepare this car with the special paint scheme as part of a promotion where the car was given away after its retirement. As part of their sponsorship with Roush, the race competition drive train stayed with the car. This car is not a display car, promotional car or just a show car. This car was final prepped for competition at Bristol Motor Speedway when it was retired. It received a cosmetic exterior refinish after its final race at Bristol. All of the authenticity and integrity was preserved. It has the authentic Jack Roush racing engine, Jerico transmission, 9” nodular rear axle and all of the trimmings to go with them. The car was given away in a promotion at a Walmart in East Texas. The family who won the car decided to sell it and use the money for their son’s college education. A car collector purchased the car from them and struck a deal with Dub at the Cruisin’ the Coast Car event in Mississippi for ownership of the race car in a trade. Dub always said that he had more fun with this car than any of the other classic cars that he owned. My husband and I would often travel with him when he would trailer (enclosed car trailer) the car to events to display the car for people to view and enjoy. I always jokingly told Dub that I was his crew chief and, at times I felt more like a bodyguard for the car. Many years ago prior to his retirement from racing, Mark Martin purchased the Ford dealership in Batesville, Arkansas. They advertised an open house at the newly purchased dealership and they expected about 1000 people to show up but over 5000 people turned out. Mark brought in Jack Roush and Matt Kenseth to sign autographs. Dub trailered the car to the open house. Mark Martin and Jack Roush viewed the car and Mark Martin autographed the hood. (There is a photograph of Mark signing the hood).
