Ultra Rare - 1944 SCHULT ARISTOCRAT - Aluminum Bumper Pull Travel Trailer Ultra Rare - 1944 SCHULT ARISTOCRAT - Aluminum Bumper Pull Travel Trailer ULTRA RARE 1944 SCHULT ARISTOCRAT
I could hardly believe it when I came across this one. I’ve been in the market for a Spartan, Royal or Imperial Mansion and came across this one. I love and appreciate all things vintage, so I had to pick it up. I considered using this one as a base for my custom build, but I really think I want to stick to my original plan of finding a vintage Spartan.
I towed this trailer about 30-40 miles, and it pulled great. It has aluminum sides, with a steel (possibly galvanized?) top. I read that the lower end versions had coated canvas tops, so this one was built to last.
Unfortunately it was gutted, as shown, when I got it. The windows are mostly all missing glass, so I sealed them up with heavy duty plasitc and tape. The window mechanisms are mostly all there though, so a little TLC, and new panes of glass should get them good to go again. Three of the marker lights are still there, with the beautiful heavy-glass lenses! The doors could use some TLC and adjustment so that they don’t rub when you shut them. External locks were added, and there are some random screw holes throughout the body that could easily be filled with rivets.
As it is now, it doesn’t leak at all. In fact, I stored some valuables in it through the winter and they stayed bone dry. The underframe is in great, solid condition. The floor is mostly solid, but does have a lot of surface wear and tear, as well as a soft spot near the rear door. It would go a long way, to just replace the floor and start with a nice solid base for the resto. The photos of the belly/pan show the frame arms with light surface rust, but I haven’t seen any cancer or rusting through at all; just light surface rust. There appears to have been some kind of fiberboard/masonite covering under the trailer, which is kind of curling and peeling back. It looks worse than it is, and that stuff was not structural anyway.
Tongue has 2” ball and a non-working jack. Trailer lights aren’t hooked up. I used a magnetic set to tow it home. Pulled nice!
Do a google search, or search on Tin Can Tourists, and you’ll find some really interesting history of the Schult brand, which is still in business today!
This trailer was likely sold through a WWII program to someone helping in the war effort. Due to metal shortages, only those who qualified were allowed to buy trailers like this. You can even find vintage advertisements from Schult discussing the program.
Trailer should get new tires before trekking too far, but it will pull just fine to any local tire shop.
It is currently located in West Point, Utah which is about 30 minutes north of downtown SLC. I can have the trailer ready for you to pick up in SLC though if that helps. If you’ll be towing it far, you should plan on getting a spare tire for it as well. You never know. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. If you happen to have a Spartan (preferably 1955 or older), that you want to trade, I’m all ears!
