Vehicle description
2010 Silver Eagle M1101 Military Cargo Trailer customized to create the Ultimate Off Road Camping Machine.
Finally, a truly go-anywhere RV !
A Little Background Story…
The problem statement was simple – How do you bring ALL of your stuff camping, to a campsite in the middle of nowhere, to places where only 4WD’s can get to?
The solution was – we built our own extreme camping rig.
There’s a lot of discussion on the web, on various off road forums, about the best camping trailer. Lots of different manufacturers with extremely expensive options, but nothing special, and certainly nothing that can haul an entire campsite (tables, chairs, generator, a half dozen water cans, several gas cans, strings of camping lights, 20# propane tanks, large camp stove, shade covers, etc., you know the stuff you need to disappear for a week or so in the wilderness). The conversation invariably circles back to military trailers and how to outfit them. Numerous discussions about the M1101 cargo trailer, and the often difficult (and some say extremely hard/impossible task) of mounting a tent system and making it compatible with standard vehicles.
Behold the unicorn that most dream about…
This trailer is a 2010 Silver Eagle M1101 Military Cargo Trailer. It was essentially new when we bought it having only sat in storage in the California desert for six years. It has been ‘civilized’ to work with trucks and SUV’s, and has been taken to some fairly remote places performing flawlessly. We are selling it because now with more family members wanting to ride dirt bikes, we now need a toy hauler.
You can research the specifications for the M1101, but in a nutshell it is a heavy duty aluminum trailer with a steel torsion axle, independent locking brakes, leveling stands, truck tailgate, integrated cargo bed rings, and a Lunette Ring adapter (we are including an adjustable Pintle Hook receiver for the towing vehicle, as well as a high-end adjustable cargo net). The trailer, as currently configured with the tent and battery, has an unburdened weight of approximately 1,760 pounds, and a cargo capacity of 1,640 pounds, for a total GVWR of 3,400 pounds.
The trailer has been outfitted with new BFG All Terrain LT245/75R16 tires (the same tires that fit a Toyota 4Runner) to give it a level ride with most towing vehicles, and has 18 inches of clearance at the torsion axle, and 23 to 26 inches clearance to the underside of the trailer bed. In short, you’ll destroy the towing vehicle before you scrape the underside of the trailer.
The trailer has been rewired to a seven (7) pin harness from the original 12-pin MIL version and converted to 12V (the originals are 24V). Bulbs have been replaced with high-intensity LED equivalents. The front Jerrycan mount has been modified to fit a 200 Ah deep cycle gel battery sufficient to power the trailer lights, small inverters, and/or USB adapters for an extended period of time and during nighttime use. The paint color is the original CARC MIL tan.
The trailer has been outfitted with a custom bed tent mount (with LED lighting) and has a Tuff Stuff Overland “Ranger 3” Truck Top Tent with the optional Annex Room with Floor (Tent interior mattress size: 96” x 56” x 2.75”).
Finally, the rear of the trailer has been outfitted with a custom motorcycle rack and ramp designed to hold a Kawasaki KLX 230 which has a weight of approximately 300 pounds.
This is a one-of-a-kind offroad RV designed to be a camping beast. Currently registered in CA with a permanent trailer plate. The price $10500 OBO. Buyer to make arrangements to pick up.
