Vehicle description
This is a 1953 Dodge M152 military panel utility truck. It is very similar to the M43 ambulance but from my research is extremely rare with only a few thousand produced. Production of the M43 was several hundred thousand where these are only a few thousand. It is based off of the same chassis as the M43 but has a more powerful larger engine and a higher payload. It was abandoned on a farm here in Chico in 1997. It had been parked there until a few months ago when I purchased it. I am not sure if it was re-purposed from the Airforce by the US Army from a cargo truck to an ambulance or it was painted like that after being removed from military usage.
In order to get it operational the following was performed. Replaced several parts in the ignition, fuel hoses, batteries, light wiring, brake master cylinder, front brake wheel cylinders, carb cleaned out, and quite a few other tasks. This bad boy now fires right up without any hesitation and runs like a sewing machine! I took it down to DMV and had it vin verified since it was out of the system, and had the registration brought current. I have the actual title with my name on it in hand. I"ve put probably 40 miles on it around town and it gets a crazy amount of attention! The brakes work fine and transmission shifts as it should. If you try to shift through the gears too fast it will grind, pretty sure it wasn"t meant to be a race car. . The tires REALLY need to be replaced, as you drive down the road pieces of them literally fly off. The water pump just started leaking, I believe its coming from the weep hole indicating it needs to be replaced. So to state the obvious its probably not a good idea to drive it without replacing them. The headlights, brake lights, and turn signals all work. The starter and generator operate at 24v, the ignition and lighting are 12v. I"ve been told by a local electrical shop that converting it all to 12v is possible but I did not get a price on it. I have several hundred pages of bound original repair manuals I just had printed that go with it.
I would really like to see this go to someone who will appreciate it and restore it to its former glory! I am willing to entertain offers because as I said I want it to go to someone that will think its as awesome as I do and fully restore it.
This is located here in Chico, CA which is about an hour and a half north of Sacramento. I can assist in shipping if you"re within 400 miles I can transport it for an additional cost. I accept cash only or if you"re having it shipped I will accept a cashiers check. If you are paying with a cashiers check please allow time for it to clear before picking up the vehicle. I will not release it until runs have cleared, no exceptions.
