OOAK Handcrafted Gypsy Vardo Tinker Wagon Caravan Trailer Camper RV
This is truly a one of a kind piece of folk art that our family has been lucky to own for the last 8 years.
My husband and I were fortunate to cross paths with the Englishman who built this for himself and have brought it with us on our many moves across America. This was handcrafted by an English Gypsy who came to America to see the country; he built himself this friendly little wagon and hitched it to a Toyota Corolla and got to see USA in this magic little wagon! When he had seen it all and was ready to head back to England, we happened to intersect with him as we needed a trailer to carry our Very Important Cargo on our move from S. Florida to Colorado, and again from Denver to Portland, Oregon. This little trailer has been nestled in next to our home here in SW Washington State and has become a whimsical landmark in our neighborhood, a beacon to the young at heart, and a sweet playhouse for our kiddos. This is a really hard piece to let go of, but I am aware of the effects of time and our lack of time to keep up with maintaining her.
Over the years I have refurbished this wagon from a brown and orange mess to a beautiful little caravan that always reminded me of a circus wagon, painting and stenciling and making it our own. I have applied multiple coats of latex roof sealer over the years, but there is - what looks like - water damage that has creeped in. If you"re handy, this may be simple to remedy, but even if you"re not this is a beautiful & unique work of art that would be the crown jewel of your backyard, or a darling little trailer to sell your clothes, baked goods, or art - or whatever! - out of. Folks are mesmerized by the charms of this little vardo - we get waves and stares along highways and folks are not shy about coming up to peek their heads in and ask about its" roots.
There is room for a twin sized bed and a storage cabinet built beneath it, with two benches and another built-in cabinet on the right when you step in. We had a small electric fireplace in there for cozy fun evenings - with an extension cord leading out, as this is not wired for electricity (although the tail lights were functional the last time we hooked it up to our truck). As I said the previous owner traveled extensively in this and had it kitted out with a small camp stove as well - that"s long gone, but an option if you wanted to take this show on the road.
This is a show stopper of a piece that will lend whimsy and joy to any space and situation. She needs a little TLC but is absolutely lovely as is, too. The wagon is built completely out of wood except for the steel frame it"s built on and is approximately 18" from tail to hitch and around 7" wide. We do have the handmade trailer title for it and the VIN is stamped very quietly on the hitch for a new tag. I understand living far away and wanting this but it"s local pickup only - we live in the Portland, OR metro. Please feel free to ask any questions and I can answer/post pics.
