Vehicle description

Even though it survived WWII and the subsequent ownership of a Kansas farmer, I have never seen a former farm truck so beautifully taken care of. As soon as I saw it I promptly bought it. It was just way too nice to pass up.Of course it needed restoration, but the work was pretty easy. The vehicle was parked inside a barn when not used. I started by taking the truck completely apart. From there, I:1. Media blasted the frame and axle housings;2. Painted the entire chassis and its components with 2 coats of red zinc primer and 2 coats of the correct OD (Gillespie paints);3. Replaced all wheel seals, bearings and races;4. New brake shoes and wheel cylinders all around;5. New exhaust system;6. New tie rods;7 New shock absorbers;8. 5 new tires and tubes. The insides of the transmission and transfer case were immaculate and the gears perfect. All I had to do was install new seals and gaskets. Although the transmission has that familiar truck whine in its low gears, once in high gear the truck purrs. Double clutch is, of course, required. The transfer case, front diff and parking brake work perfectly. The clutch, pressure plate and release bearing are new.The 6-cylinder flathead had been professionally rebuilt the year before I bought the truck. However, I inspected everything and found that the rebuild was done right. The cylinder compression is within spec, the bearings are new, and the water distribution tube in the head was brand new. As I put the engine back together I installed new gaskets and a thermostat. All of the engine accessories are new or rebuilt by shops in my area: fuel pump, oil pump, water pump, distributor and carburetor, and radiator. All hoses and belts are new. There are no oil leaks, just very minor but normal seepage in the running gear. The body was as cherry as the chassis. The only work needed was to straighen the front bumper, install all new window glass, and replace the oak wood in the bottom of the bed. I replaced all of the wiring, reproduced by Vintage Wiring. It is a 6-volt system. The best part: everything, except the wipers, works as it should. I had the gauges rebuilt by Vintage Power Wagons, replaced the steering wheel, obtained all the missing data plates and re-upholstered the front seat in a brown leather-like vinyl, which I believe is correct. The last thing I did was buy the correct steam-bent cargo bows and sourced correct cargo bed canvas. The truck is currently registered and licensed in California- I even put 1941California plates on it.I really love this truck and I hate to sell it. But I never drive it- it only has 265 miles on it in 4 years, and that"s not right. This truck is solid and reliable. It starts right up every time and does not need a single thing to take to its first car show. Finally, it also comes with some aerosol touchup paint, floor mats, 5-gallon gas can, canvas bucket, and a complete set of technical manuals.
