Vehicle description
1961 Mercedes Unimog 404
Swiss Army Troop Carrier. Fully roadworthy and registered / insured in New York State. In good overall condition. Brand new batteries and new original Zenith carburetor.
VIN: 404114020366 Mileage: 32,908km Engine and drive train: all in good working order. Gasoline 6 cylinder, 2.2 liter 90 hp, 2 - 16 gal gasoline fuel tanks and 1 x 5 gal canister Transmission: 6-speed forward, 2-reverse Shift on the fly 4x4 and differential locks front and rear portal axles with coil spring suspension front and rear. Electric: 24V Electrical (2 x 12v batteries). Body: in good condition for age. Some rust spots. Interior: original seats (a few tears, patched with tape), original gauges, map light, rifle holders Tops: Front and Rear vinyl tops in great condition, little wear / UV damage. Features: Owner"s manual, spare tire, tow cable, wheel chuck, jerry can, pioneer kit (axe, shovel, etc), tire chains. I run it weekly, and it"s starting pretty reliably even in below freezing temps. Like any vehicle this age it takes some finessing to start it on the first try. It drives great, I have had it on the road (and off-road) many times in the 6 years that I"ve had it, it"s currently licensed in state of NY. The bones of this truck are amazing, it even comes with the full pioneer rack (axe, pick, shovel) and all the original accessories (jerry can, tire chains, etc.). I hate to see it go, but I just don"t drive it that much anymore. The truck is built like a tank, and has hardly needed any work since I bought it. This summer I replaced the batteries (it has 2) and had my mechanic rebuild the carburetor with original parts ( Zenith carburetor). I am not a mechanical expert so I can"t shed much more light. It has been wintered outside for the past few years, but is currently indoors this winter. This truck is not an everyday vehicle: it takes an understanding how to operate, and could probably use some space to roam!
