Vehicle description
I’m selling my 1968 Kaiser-Jeep M35A2 ‘Deuce and a Half’ military cargo truck. I have owned this excellent truck for many years but, due to a back injury, the time has come to let it go for someone else to enjoy. It has all the best features plus a few subtle upgrades:
- White LDT-465-1C Multifuel diesel engine with C turbo (‘whistler’).
- Factory spin-on oil filters, not adapters!
- Front 10k PTO Winch.
- Air shift transfer case.
- Driver’s side spring seat.
- Troop seats, headache rack, and cargo cover bows are all fiberglass and metal, NO wood to rot out.
- Original cab heater kit including unused front canvas grille cover.
- NEW (at 2010 repaint) hard cab top right out of the crate, NO rust or dents!
- Accessories included: troop strap, jerry can, decon bottle, pioneer tool kit.
- Genuine vintage canvas tarp bed cover (has some small tears which can and should be sewn up) with end curtains and aluminum trunk for stowing them.
- Added Spinner II centrifugal oil bypass filter.
- Added combined exhaust pyrometer and boost gauge.
- Added Ouverson Engineering hub lockout on middle axle (original axle shaft also included).
- Added remote brake fluid reservoir (an important safety upgrade).
- Added spin-on fuel filter adapters.
- Added coolant filter. - Mechanical back-up bell on the passenger"s side rear axle.
- Solargizer battery maintainer.
This truck has been on many road trips and displayed at a number of truck shows and air shows, including Miramar and Chino Hills, and was a trophy winner at the American Truck Historical Society show in 2011. The paint is faded somewhat now, though I think it actually looks better than when freshly sprayed. The paint scheme and markings are all correct for the Vietnam era, with much information having been gathered by carefully removing layers of original paint from the bumpers.
Mechanically, the truck is in excellent condition, ready to drive (except as noted below under ‘known issues’). It starts instantly in all weather and drives smooth and straight. I have replaced many, many parts over the years - radiator, hoses, clutch, brakes, starter, alternator, head gaskets, etc. The tires have some wear but are in good condition and not rotten. The truck has around 16,000 known miles on it.
Known Issues:
- The speedometer does not work properly. I just replaced the cable and it didn"t improve, so the issue is in the speedometer itself. They are readily available and not expensive, and I will install a new one if I get a chance.
- The passenger’s side mirror has a crack.
- The windshield wiper air motors stopped working despite being only a few years old. They may just need oil and some tinkering.
- Decon bottle needs a new hold-down strap.
The truck has Historical Vehicle registration (non-op as of this year) and a clear California title. I will include all manuals on a CD - operators, maintenance, parts, and many others. I just recently changed the oil, checked all other fluids, and greased all fittings so the truck is ready for the new owner to drive home. Personally I wouldn’t be afraid to drive it long distances as I have many times in the past, but it is sold AS-IS with no warranty. Cash only.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I encourage you to arrange with me to view and drive the truck rather than buy sight unseen. I am in Phelan, CA 92371 and will make every effort to be available. I can send additional pictures upon request. Thank you for your interest!
