Vehicle description

This is an extremely rare export version — a right-hand drive GAZ 24-56 with the diesel engine Peugeot Indenor XDP 4.90. The car options include Harrison air conditioner and sun visors. There are only several cars like this all over the world. This is a special lot manufactured in accordance with the tender of Singapore municipality for the delivery of medium cars intended for state agencies and taxi service providers. The conditions stated as follows: high capacity, low-consumption diesel engine and air conditioner. GAZ plant had a right-hand drive version, namely GAZ 24- 54 with the original gasoline engine. Unfortunately, the country had no own diesel for passenger cars, so they had to ask for one from third-party manufacturers. The supplier was found instantly —a long-term partner of ours, Scaldia -Volga, agreed to provide the requisite engines. The 2.1-liter diesel engine Peugeot Indenor XDP 4.90 which was very popular in Europe turned out to be very apropos. The cars were assembled at GAZ plant in 1977-1978’s. In 1982 the car returned back home, having crossed the equator one more time. It has been owned by one person ever since. The car is still drivable but it surely needs body repair as there are a lot of corrosion spots and the paint coating became dull. By the way, the starting procedure should be noted specifically: the car is provided with fuel nozzle preheating. The car is started by turning the standard Hungarian LIC. NEIMAN lock and shut down with a special-purpose knob arranged to the right of the steering wheel: simply pull the knob to kill the engine. The hood is opened on the left just like in all right-hand drive cars of domestic manufacture. There was no heater but the owner installed some heater at the passenger’s feet. The original equipment included no radio, so the standard blank is fitted instead. According to all indications, the car belongs to the second production batch except for the bumpers that have no “fangs”. The car owner changed the front bumper for “fanged” one as he liked it better. The car interior is of standard red color with nameplates in Russian.
