This beaut from GoBoondock! Campers has been converted from a stripped down cargo van to a wood finished travel machine. She is road ready with rear view backup camera, polyurethane finished Cedar tongue and groove ceilings, Maxxair ceiling fan vent with remote control and rain sensor, new Boss cabin speakers, red oak counter top, oak panel walls and doors, under-counter storage shelves, bedside see-through shelves, metal sliding storage cabinets, pecan wood floors, full-size bed with massive under storage, new starter battery. All made with lightweight and reclaimed wood for the most sustainable fuel consumption and environmental impact.
Front windshield has reflectix as well as custom fitted pieces for the front side windows. There is a blackout curtain that can be installed between the front and rear cabin. Either with clamps or high strength magnets. Back and rear side windows have been permanently blacked out. All swing out doors have been outfitted with pockets to store shoes, tools, and cleaning products.
I didn’t get to finish the lighting system, but I will include a 200W power inverter that runs off the 12V socket which you can plug the string light into. There is a section between the walls and the ceiling that is exposed where I was going to run LED lights and cover them with semitransparent plastic. Very easily finished even if you have no electrical experience (YouTube is your friend).
Driver’s door had the window actuator lift replaced this year, but the window clip was lost so it will not go up the final inch to be closed completely. You can wedge a thin piece of wood to hold it up but honestly it hasn’t been a problem for us. Can be fixed with a quick, cheap trip to the junk yard and a 10mm socket. The driver door panel has been removed temporarily for access. Driver’s door needs to be slammed closed to properly lock. You have to pull it from the inside; I installed a metal handle to make it easier as a temporary fix. Latch needs to be replaced. Very cheap part (online or junk yard) just haven’t had the time. Power mirrors do not work, but once you have them set, how often do you realistically need to adjust them?
Mechanically, she is extremely sound. Drives so beautifully, the engine purrs. Idles and accelerates so smoothly. Has a lot of low-end torque; you definitely feel it. I wouldn’t worry about getting stuck anywhere. Please see all of the maintenance and replacement records, and I am happy to provide the physical copies.
My professional opinion? Might be worth looking into the fuel pump at some point when you can. (Not an emergency, just my preventative, maintenance suggestion) Sometimes when the gas tank is very low (~1/16th) it will have trouble starting (especially if on a slight uphill gradient). The starter and alternator both are in perfect working condition, so my only thought is the fuel pump. She works and does her job, so I wouldn’t be concerned. Just fill it up if you’re below 1/8 of a tank to avoid the issue all together. 30 gallon tank, so you’ll never get stranded without gas.
Cosmetically, there are a few dents and dings. To be expected from a 20 year old classic vehicle. The body is in great shape. Small trailer hitch shaped dent in front bumper from small fender-bender. Body skirt on rear drivers side is slightly broken at the tail end. I removed the rubber trim piece that was running along the edge because it was hanging. There is some exposed metal that can easily be fixed with spray paint.
I didn’t get to finish the cabin ceiling, but the insulation is installed and held in place. I still have the insulation square that I can hand off to you to finish the two small sections above each door. Can easily be finished with a thin sheet of sanded ply. I adhered the cross beams to screw into for easy installation.
Aside from these minor fixes, come check it out. It’s perfect, and you’ll see why. I’ve gotten a lot of interest in her but figured it doesn’t hurt to expose it to a few new audiences.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
