This van has had two build variations. The initial build was done in 2017 where I lived in it full-time for a year while I worked and recreated in Colorado. After taking seasonal employment in Washington State I continued to use it for trips and living between work seasons. For the final build layout I incorporated design changes that greatly improved its livability for both the full-time and part-time user. The design of this van has been built for both active and varied recreational uses as well as the need to be well suited for an urban environment. The van boasts large amounts of storage for recreational gear as well as items needed for day-to-day living. Storage has been designed to be modular and thus adaptable to your specific needs. Windows in the living area were not added to the build to preserve privacy and with the blackout curtains no light reaches or escapes the interior. To suite future modifications, the build preserved the ability to install windows on all doors as well as a window behind the kitchenette. Aluminum extrusion was used for all framing providing a clean modern look while also promoting a flexible construction that holds up well to the dynamics of a vehicle in motion. All modified walls have been been fully insulated with 1-2 inches of EPS foam board and gaps filled with foam. Q/A: We have had several questions that people have been asking and I wanted to talk about them here. Q: Is there a heater? A: No. We have been using a small space heater when needed. A gas parking heater can easily be installed. If you want one that is something I could help you with. I"d ask you to reach out to me to discuss further. Q: Toilet. No. I realized that while I was using the van both full time and for weekending I always had access to facilities where the van would go. The main life style modification this required was to make sure I used them. However, I do understand that your situation may be different than mine. There are options for potable toilets (including composting toilets) that would fit well in this van in the case that is your preference. Q: Was this a professional build? A: I built this van myself and I do not make a living converting vans. I do have a background as a professional woodworker. Early into building this van, I appreciated that the elements that make a quality van build are indeed different than conventional woodworking or home building. I sought the advice of professional van builders and fabricators who provided valuable guidance. In the end I am pleased to have a clean modern look that is also highly durable and will last. Q: Is the van insulated? Yes. The ceiling and finished walls have been insulated. To preserve vertical space (I"m 6"3") the floor was not. I tend to wear socks or slippers anyway and haven"t felt any complaints. I used 1" Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam board, expanding foam, and reflectix. Q: How long does the water last? I"ve gone 3-days with washing dishes and with drinking water on one 7.5-gallon container. Your personal use will vary, but this setup does allow easy exchange with additional jugs stored in the garage space as needed.
