Vehicle description
This is an amazing survivor. We do not know 100% the year the trailer was built, however, several historians have dated it between the early to mid-1920"s. We also have the account from the deceased owner"s children. The axle is a 1922 Willys axle. It has the original Willys wooden spoke wheels and Willys hubcaps. According to the family, the trailer was taken in on trade in 1934 for work on the original builder"s Model A Ford. The trailer was then used as a mobile Model A Ford shop, until it was put on blocks and permanently parked in a garage in Vancouver, WA in 1941. This was the last year it was registered.
Since the trailer was used as a "tool shop" for many years the owner wore through the original linoleum. This was replaced during the restoration. The original canvas roof was also replaced during restoration to original specifications. There was one small cupboard section missing that the original white gas Coleman cooker sat on. This was rebuilt, and a small removable banquette was built over the original wood box, retaining all the original cabinetry underneath. The roll down windows all around the trailer were repaired and made operational. New period upholstery, light fixtures, countertops and window coverings were installed. In addition to the original sink, hand pump, cooker, ice box and pot belly wood burning stove, aged Brass detailing and screening complete the beautiful old growth Doug Fir interior.
We have been very careful to keep the exterior of the trailer as original as possible. The patina on the Masonite is incredible, along with the unique design details that the original builder came up with. This includes the turret window in the rear and the shovel nose in the front.
You really need to see this trailer to fully appreciate it. If you appreciate the history of travel trailers you will not be disappointed. This trailer will make an amazing addition to your collection!
