Vehicle description
1969 BMW 2002 Vintage Race Car. This car was first built into a race car the winter of 1999 with it"s first race in January of 2000. It had a blue 2 tone blue paint scheme and ran with primarily with VARA. In 2015 a complete bare metal restoration was begun and finished in Spring of 2016. The owner has retired from racing so the car is now available for sale. Since the restoration was completed it has only ran 5 race weekends through 2016 and 2017 seasons. It is fully sorted and reliable. Every part on the car was either purchased new or refurbished to as new condition during the restoration. Front front to back the car was built to be a front runner in the vintage B-Sedan class while also still being legal. It has all the best parts and is truly 100% ready to race, no disappointments.
The car was stripped to a bare shell, sandblasted and then minor body modifications were made to change to the Alpina style flares. The the entire interior, underside, engine bay and trunk area were all powdercoated a nice light gray color. The exterior received a show quality base/clear paint job, cut and polished smooth and flat. All windows are plastic with new BMW seals. Custom fabricated aluminum interior panels, black wrinkle coated. With only 5 race weekends on the entire car it"s still in overall EXCELLENT condition. It has been used so there are a couple very small rock chips and signs of use but otherwise it still looks very clean and fresh.
The entire suspension was disassembled and rebuilt, all the mounting points have been converted to rod end or spherical joints. Front T/C rods are adjustable, rear cross member is adjustable for both toe and camber. Then everything has been sandblasted and nickle plated for an extremely durable finish. The rear differential and rear drum brakes are both upgraded to 320i spec, differential limited has been rebuilt with modified ramps to increase lock up. Rear differential cooling system with electric pump and rear mounted cooler. Front struts area converted to adjustable coil-overs with top camber plates, 320i front hubs and vented rotors, Tii front brake calipers. Front and rear Suspension Techniques sway bars. Everything still looks as new.
The transmission is a Getrag close ratio 245/10 5 speed unit. Dogleg first gear and 1:1 ratio 5th gear. 12 lb. steel flywheel and 5.5" Tilton dual disc clutch with internal release bearing.
The engine is a full race 2.0 liter build by BMW specialist Terry Tinney Performance Motors in Livermore, CA. Dyno sheets available, 217hp / 170ftlbs torque. It has only the 5 race weekends on it from being freshly built and has all the best parts used inside for optimum performance. Shrick 336 cam, 45mm Weber carbs, JE pistons, Pauter rods, Lester Owen forged steel rockers, gated oil pan, Pertronix ignition and MSD ignition, ND one wire alternator, etc.
Additional features/spares include: fiberglass CSL dash, new Sparco seat, Halon fire system, accu-sump with electric valve, front mounted engine oil cooler and aluminum radiator, upgraded Racecraft pedal box with Mercedes brake master cylinder, hard wired AMB transponder, mounted cool suit system, 1 set of BBS 3 piece 13x7" wheels, 2 sets of Panasport 13x7" wheels (all wheels are in excellent condition) new set of rain tires, new unmounted set of Toyo R888R 205-60-13 tires.
