Vehicle description
Featured on the youtube channel Stewtube during Nathan and co.’s 2016 USA tour, this 1997 Fleetwood Phoenix Flyer has been renovated and updated from stem to stern! Nearly every appliance and fixture in it is 2017 or newer. I’ve put 2.5 years and over 15 thousand dollars into transforming it into a fulltime offgrid house with wheels. Plumbing redone in 2017 with modern PEX, fully remodeled shower and toilet, Atwood propane hot water tank (doubles as an accumulator) and Remco Rebel 60 PSI DC water pump. Electrical system redone in 2018 with two roof solar panels, Onan QG 4000 gasoline generator with approx 2 months total runtime, Xantrex freedom XC 2000 pure sine inverter/charger, four 12-volt house batteries and efficient LED light fixtures. 2017 Dometic roof air conditioning, new thermostat and Atwood propane furnace. Roof replaced with modern material. Original Dometic Americana fridge runs off propane and electric. AC powered Samsung microwave, Magic Chef propane stove and oven. Propane tee upgraded with Camco extend-a-stay kit. Conveniently placed access panels everywhere for easy DIY maintenance. The motor is a ‘99 Ford Triton, never removed from box as of July 2017—the original had a bad belt tensioner so I had a new one put in. It starts, it runs, it brakes, it drives! Blue Ombre Mist exterior custom painted by a local graphic designer. Hand-sewn overcab bunk privacy curtain in Tommy Bahama fabric for a beachy, tropical look.
The downside? I’m selling it because the renovation project has gone way over my budget and skill level. It needs work on the automotive components—the horn doesn’t honk, a headlight is out, it runs lean on both banks and needs body work. Engine work and auto body work are not my areas of expertise, and due to a family crisis I’m bankrupt now. The odometer wasn’t reset after the engine swap so it’s not accurate and I haven’t kept track of the mileage either. Other than that, the generator has a crack in the carburetor from running in triple-digit hot weather, and the motorhome is due for yearly roof maintenance and monthly tune-ups. Great discount camper for a knowledgeable DIY mechanic!
Included are an Xbox 360, a Sony VAIO laptop with peripheral keyboard and an HDTV—they were part of an upgrade I planned but ran out of money before I could complete.
