Vehicle description
This is a home-made Adventure Trailer based on the design of the M-416 Military Trailer. The frame is 2"x3" heavy wall rectangular tubing welded with cross members. The body is 12 gauge sheet metal bent and welded together around 1" steel tube frame with wiring ran inside the frame. The inside of the trailer is texture coated with rubberized truck bed coating (like Rhino-Liner). The lid is assisted by 2 gas struts that compensate for the weight of the roof top tent. The trailer has a 7 pin standard plug that requires a brake controller if you want the brakes to work. There are electric brakes on the axle with parking brake feature. The parking brake handle is an authentic military brake handle from an Iraqi War trailer bought off of ebay. The cabling for the e-brakes was custom ordered from a hot rod shop here in SoCal. The axle is a 3500 lb custom axle with leaf spring suspension and 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern to match the 35" Wrangler MTR and TJ Moab wheels. in the event of a flat tire, I have 1 adapter hub for 5x4.5 to 5x5 so I could use the JK spare.
150 Watts of solar keep the Gel Cel battery charged to provide power for the 12volt ARB refrigerator and LED lighting inside the trailer and tent. The solar panels are installed on a locking drawer slide system that extends when needed and locked back when in transport. I also have a 1800 watt inverter but hardly ever use it, most of my camp equipment is 12volt. 2 Military Jerry Cans carry 10gallons of water for drinking and shower. I have a shower tent and 12V shower pump and nozzle to go with it also. 1 external LED light in the rear helps with backing up and set up in the dark. All lighting is LED, including turn signals and running lights.
The awning is an 8ft ARB roll-up with the mosquito net. This makes an excellent kitchen as you can see from the Yellowstone photos. The roof top tent is a TJM from Australia that includes the ladder room. The tent will sleep 3 and the ladder room can sleep 3 to 4 depending on how old your kids are. The Roof Top Tent is longer than a normal queen so we use that extra area at our feet for our shoes, clothing, and backpacks. I also have LED lighting for the ladder room.
Gecko Green is the Wrangler color for 2012 & 2013. it is brighter than the new green on 2017 wranglers but would probably match close enough. Our Jeep was rear ended and totaled out in 2015, we have only used this trailer a couple of times since then, just doesn"t match our new blue jeep and we bought an RV last year to "Glamp". I am very proud of this trailer that I built by myself from scratch but I don"t have the room for it and we don"t use it any more.
